Is Jesus the worlds greatest all time network marketer, and Viral marketer?
Ok I don't want this to desend into a does God exist thread, thats not the aim; so for the purpose of discussion we shall assume there was a man called jesus. He started the christian faith. [Thats it]
So this guy starts out just him, and a few thousand years later the faith is one of the richest businesses in the world [ the catholic church is worth billions ££ ] and has more in his "client database" than most.
So what can we learn from him, and the marketing techniques used by not only the Christian Faith, but religions in general.
1.They market to people who have a need/ desire / are looking for an answer, or to solve a problem.
1a.They then get these people to teach others about them. [Like an affiliate] But instead of financial reward, they receive spiritual reward. Followers teach their children, encourage their friends, and in some cases walk the streets, and knock on doors, to just tell people about this. [How many businesses put in that kind of determination and dedication to growth?]
What if you can create something that is habit forming/ and rewarding-Church on sundays etc. Sports teams do this too. I support Colchester United, because my father took me to watch them as a child. I will take my children, and so it moves on, and grows. [ Football teams often do games where you can bring your children for a £1 to encourage the new generation of clients through the doors] Religion does the same but with ceromonies, and traditions.
2.Those that are truely successful have 100% believe in what they are "selling".
3.To recruit followers, Jesus would of had to have enthusiasm, and charisma. People had to buy him before they brought his ideas, and what he was selling: Christianity.
4.There's so much more that I am sure people who are more religious than myself can add here when they start thinking about it.
So how can we apply this to marketing today.
1.You need to find a need/ want or problem that needs solving
1a.You can't create a massive brand like christianity [I mean no offence by this, just trying to relate business to religion] on your own. You need to get people talking, and creating a buzz about you, and your product. You may annoy a few people if your product is different and means change. If Jesus had the internet, he probably would have blogged out the bible!
2.Why would people buy from you if A/ you don't truely believe they should, and B/ you don't have the passion to convince people they should
3.Every massively sccessful business person in the world today has a "personality". Each is different, but have the confidence to create a public personality, that people buy into, and trust. Therefore they buy into and trust their products. Excellent example- Richard Branson/Alan Sugar/Donald trump-No I am not likening them to Jesus]
4.Add anything you want to this discussion you think is relevent.
Just some food for thought. Marketing, and networking [network marketing/ viral marketing] has been around for longer than the internet.
What are people's thoughts on this. Am I talking rubbish, or can we learn some truely excellent marketing techniques from religious groups.
Michael
NB: Some facts about me. I have had a christian up bringing, hence using that faith as an example; it could have been any really. I am an atheist. I mean no offence with this thread to anyone. So I hope nobody takes any from it. [[From the thread in time out with a billion and six posts in it, i'm guessing this subject can be bit sensitive]
