Is it time for a new laptop?

I have to agree with @alan1302 in regards to Apple. I'm not someone who cares so much for the really detailed specs. I just want something reliable which lets me get on with my work and that product for the past 7 years has been the MacBook Pro. Switching to Mac was a game changer for me - rugged, reliable, fast, good operating system, an absolute joy to use. I can't see myself switching back to Windows any time soon, although Windows 10 did grab my interest.

I do think you get what you pay for. If I were to go back to Windows, I'd want something as good as the MacBook Pro, so the following would be my top 3 to look at:
  • Microsoft Surface Book
  • Lenovo ThinkPad
  • Dell XPS 13
That said, I've seen mixed reviews on these products and Windows 10, so I've never been convinced to switch back from Mac, that would be a huge gamble given how reliable Apple products have been for me.

I use Android for my mobile OS but I'm not too fussed either way. I've owned an iPhone before and think it's a great product, just watch out for the walled garden (for example I'd always buy movies on a third party cross-platform service rather than iTunes when using an Apple product).

Tesco have an eBay account under the name Tesco _ Outlet (remove the spaces but keep the underscore; I can't post the name without an emoticon appearing!) which sells all their refurbished laptops and I highly recommend it. I bought an Acer Aspire e15 (currently worth just shy of £700 brand new) for just £270. It's a beast and can more than cope with my day-to-day needs. I don't think it had even been used before judging by the protective plastic still on the screen!

Following a conversation I had with a brilliant bloke from Microsoft when he was working on setting up my Office 365, a seed of thought has been planted in my mind as to whether or not I need a new laptop.

My current machine must be about eight years old now and runs a Pentium P6200 which drew a "wow" from the Microsoft man when I told him.

I have a very limited budget (£200-£250) so what benefit do you think I'd see in buying a new laptop for that kind of money?

I haven't really noticed any defiencies with my present laptop but then again I don't demand all that from them, simply reliability, USB ports and ability to run MS packages. I wouldn't mind Bluetooth compatibility though for a decent keyboard and mouse.

What do you folks reckon?

I believe that the latest MS Office would be work to your laptop. I hoped that MS Office will perform smoothly. Also, you hard drive should have more free space to avoid in any inconveniences.
