Is IOSS optional?

Can someone clear this up (as I'm having terrible trouble finding the answer - there's a whole world of confusion out there it seems) am I right in my understanding that signing up for IOSS is optional?

If so and we choose not to sign up for it, can we can still continue to sell into the EU (from UK) and our customers then simply pay Import Duty and VAT upon receiving the goods into their country (as was the case pre 1/7)?

Hi

Yes that is correct for sales from your own website. If you sell on Ebay etc. then VAT is pre-paid and you should, apparently, give pre advice of the IOSS number on your couriers mailing system.

It is optional, unless you sell over a particular threshold. I believe you MUST register if you sell more than 10,000 EUR to the whole of the EU.

Do you have a link outlining this threshold? Again seen differing opinions upon this.

Sorry, my bad. I think I got that wrong. That's a threshold for EU companies selling cross border within the EU. I see nothing about registration thresholds for IOSS now I have looked. Sorry.

No problem - its so confusing! No clear guidance anywhere as far as I can see and the UK VAT helpline offer nothing either.

Thanks Darren. I assume this 10k euro threshold only applies to EU>EU sales and not UK>EU sales? Again no clear info on this.
