Is HKTDC a good alternative to Alibaba?

Lots of comment on this forum includes reservations about Alibaba. I have been told that www.hktdc.com includes suppliers who generally can be trusted. Anyone dealt through them?

Having said that, all the factories are located in China and not Hong Kong.

http://www.globalsources.com/ is another that reputedly take it's vetting very seriously.

It's only one of tons B2B website out there. You paid, you get premium listed.

Nothing at all about trust.

Get in touch, engage, work together, solve questions... benefical trust appears.

Hi this is my first post on this forum.

Having seen the above replies, I would like to add that most of the suppliers registered with HKTDC are HK companies. It is true that most of their factories are located in China but I guess it is safe to say you are less likely the get scams from them.
And if you check their website, you can see information of their exhibitions of different industries held each year and the suppliers that took part in are surely their members, which I find more reliable.

On the other hand, there are much more suppliers on Alibaba and you have more options, the prices are likely to be cheaper although I do believe the risk along is greater.

If you have identified your partner or prospect ask for references.
Some Chinese scammers have built their own fake reference network so investigate carefully.

General speaking, HKTDC & Global Sources are more reliable than Alibaba, because the good verification and filter system setup a few years ago. But you can find a lot more suppliers on Alibaba, among them, many are genuine too.
