Is an 'ignore' feature possible?

Is it just chat rooms or can forums also have 'ignore' features?

I would be great to be able to ignore so of the more persistant spammers.

And the other side might be could it be flagged when your favourite poster says something. I always find Steve's posts utterly brilliant insights.

There is a feature that can be installed that allows people to rate a forum member, as in to increase the credability Not seen an ignore one though.

VBulletin has an ignore function - but as far as I know not an alert function.

I don't like the idea of the rating idea - this happened on a forum I used to visit frequently, and it just got out of hand.

The ignore feature is a cool idea though - and theres one or two I'd love to ignore in here, but 99% of the members are awesome

Wouldn't make much sense if they started threads that had fantastic replies or they gave some information that changed the thread to discuss another matter.

There is a feature that can be installed that allows people to rate a forum member, as in to increase the credability . . .

One thing to consider here is that a few of us frequent the 'Time Out' section, the topics of which may not seem 'credible.' We could then have a situation where I, for instance, posted 5 spectacular and informative responses in General Biz and another 5 humorous 'incredible' responses in Time Out. Along comes someone really straight, like, say, Alpha, and makes 5 spectacular, informative responses.

Ignore isnt needed, just choose which threads you want to follow. If you don't like one ignore it, the choice is yours Silly Jokes.

That's exactly what I do, otherwise I would not have time to do anything but read these forums!

Why do you need this at all. Do what I do, switch off your e-mail alerts, they get crazy anyway and just pop in a couple of times a day, click the new threads link on the top right and hey presto, you can instantly see who said what and where.

It's far easier.

one way to reduce the number of email alerts you get is simply to only post when you have something that is truly useful to say.

Honestly, it may not seem like it but I do try not to post as often as I get the urge and regularly delete a post before I even publish it (then I forget if I posted it or not which is confusing)

How does an ignore function work? Do you simply not see threads started by the ignored party? Do you see all threads but the post by the ignored person doesnt show - in which case the flow of conversation could get very disjointed? Is it only for PMs?

Imagine if you couldn't see the ignored persons reply to threads or this is another point you are the ignored person yourself and you strat a thread and you are really hated and no-one replies, or even worse, the reason no-one is replying is because your thread is shite not because you are being ignored, but you start thinking you are!!! Paranoia city!
