Is a scanned document legally binding?

Hi.

I have a client in another continent.

Rather, than sending a SLA document via Royal Mail I was thinking to:
- print it
- sign it
- scanned it and send it to him via regular email
- he will sign it
- he will scanned it (at this point both our signatures are on it)
- he will send it to me via regular email

According to the UK law, is that legally binding?

Send them unsigned (from your and their sides) PDF and ask them to sign it and royal mail to you, after which you will sign it yourself. Banks tend to use scanned faxed confirmations. What really matters is that you both give an unambiguous signal that you agree to the terms of whatever contract it is.

All signed documents are legally binding proven that the person is real (ie. not using a fake identity). If the document is of big importance I recommend requiring the other side to notarize the document.
