4-6k? Really? That cheap?
Would need to function exactly like the dating apps mentioned above. Ie. user creates profile. Is searchable and findable by other members. Can filter by characteristics. Messaging permitted via subscription model (few £ per month). Can filter by location/proximity.
I was going to say around 50k
Without a spec and some wireframes/storyboards it is difficult to say.

It may be at the higher end of the £4-6 with the inclusion of proximity and subscriptions but I would expect to be able to produce for under £6k.
Or we could just not be trying to milk the app cow for all it's worth and ripping people off.
I think you'll find I said roughly £7-8k after seeing a better spec, and should have change from £10k but still can't give accurate until I knew all that was required.
Maybe this is an app we really want to work on to demonstrate something in a portfolio. Maybe we went tight because we're quiet? Maybe both? Maybe neither. Maybe it's none of your business how we justify pricing?

start from scratch......Build database etc.
Ballpark cost? And time to implement, including time for iterations, testing and amendments?
Re-read the whole thread.
I just did and read every post you have made. Of which none have stated you will be using open source apps as the basis to create this application on until your second to last post after posts from me about your pricing.
But as we have finally got to the bottom of this I will leave it there.
i would say this to the OP creating this with open source is fine if you know about it and you are fine with its limitations (not owning the source code of the produced application - depending on license of the open source application). This can be effective if you want to get this up and running quickly and test the market to see if it will be viable. But you will need to develop it from scratch in the future if you want to own any of the source code (again depending on the license of said open source).
Why would I?
The OP asked for a rough cost I gave him a rough cost, now when it came down to talk about the particulars of the app when we sat down with our client and not some anonymous person on the internet, we would outline exactly what we were going to do.
If you have nothing of value to add, I would ask you to please stop posting.
Love it.Maybe it's none of your business how we justify pricing?
