I`m so f**** pissed off because of maps. Had to find my way in central London today and couldn`t, because new maps are SHITE And there was not enough strong 3G between those high building, so couldn`t use maps.google.com

As it happens I got really drunk one night in Valencia and could not remember where I parked but I took a photo of the street sign, I used the GPS on my HTC one X and found my car with some relative ease, the only bad thing was the battery on the phone was dying, Im Glad I was not in your position, otherwise it would have caused loads of grief

Also chuckle at the negativity thrown towards Apple Maps. Personaly find its fine. Already Maps has navigated me to a weeks worth of meetings, plus a friends Christening without any hassles. Also sure Apple will fix this stuff. They're apparently hiring ex-Google Maps staff.

On a side note. I thought the apology by Apple this week regarding Apple Maps was very astute.

The maps are truly appalling, even my hard core apple friends agree that it is a huge backwards step and a massive embarrassment.

I live in Bristol and it has listed down, as locations, place names from Bristol in PA, USA. How an earth can that get through testing? Tried to navigate to a location today for a try and after 5 mins of it searching (I suspect the signal wasn't strong enough, despite it being 3 bars on 3G) I gave up. Google maps would give me results with little signal. The satellite view that I often use for project planning is unusable as most ofthe country isn't covered in any sort of usable resolution. No street view. No where near as many street names listed.

I'm not sure i'd call their apology astute, they were backed into a corner by the media they so often rely on to build up the hype. Their answer to all this is 'just use another service'.

They pushed out a product that wasn't anywhere near ready for the public just because of their arguments with google. They are now releasing a mini iPad, something that Steve Jobs said would never happen as 'people don't want a 10 inch tablet' because of their concerns over their rivals such as Amazon (Fire) and samsung with their note/tab etc.

My point is I think we are seeing a company that is now more concerned with what it's competitors are doing rather than what it's customers want.

I think Samsung are going to overtake Apple very soon. Their technology seems to be progressing much quicker than Apple.

I used to think of Samsung as some cheap brand as all of the product I had of theirs were 'cheap and cheerful'. Now it looks like they are a more valuable brand, moving away from 'cheap and cheerful'.

The Apple Maps thing shows an airport near me that was closed a good few years ago (over 10 years ago) and is now houses.

It's good but I think there's still a lot of phones out there that's cheaper and capable of doing the things that it does. Best example would be the S3. I don't know if anyone would agree to this.

SGS3 its just so huge I did look at it, but no way I`m gonna carry that brick in my pocket.

I don't like the fact that if I bought a smart phone on a 24 month contact, at the end of the contract my phone would be lots of versions behind.

I have a blackberry curve, which was like the best smartphone other than the iPhone when I got it. Now it's like the lowest in the range and no where near as good as phones now and it's still got a few months to go on the contract

So why the sudden fascination of being able to charge while out and about? Why is it all of a sudden a must-have?

I don't know.

I charge my phone every night and use it as my alarm clock. I've never had to carry any chargers around.

As for the original question.

I have an iPhone 4 and see no need to upgrade to a 5. It doesn't really do anything better than the 4 does to justify upgrading.

I've used the Samsung Galaxy S3 and to me the iPhone 4 is much easier to use and is much better quality.

Most of the Apps that I use are free or 69p so I don't mind having to use the App store.

I disagree, I love Apple products and have used iPhones since day1, I upgraded from the 4 to 5 (the 4S was the only version I missed) and I would not recommend to anyone that they upgrade if it is going to cost them. The extra screen size is the only real benefit, but then that makes the phone longer as well.

It looks like the iPhone 5S is scheduled for release in June. Personally, while I'm tempted to upgrade from a 4 to a 5, I'll probably wait until the 5S arrives on the scene.

Apparently, sales of the iPhone 5 have been phenomenal.

There's quite a bit-
Better camera (you can always make the camera better on each upgrade)

A few things I can think of

When you listed these things, then actuall yes, there is more room for improvement. Better low light camera, definitely battery - but batteries haven`t advanced in centuries, so there will be no extremes, sound and call quality is already top class, bigger screen only if they can keep to current dimensions, thinner - come on, its think already

There is always a feeling that Apple saves what it can for the next iteration of the iPhone. But still in many respects iPhone 5 is the most desirable yet, with its gorgeous display, a lighter, slimmer chassis, decent battery life and improved iCloud and social networking integration.Yet, with a smaller screen and a higher price tag than Samsung Galaxy SS III or HTC One X have, iPhone isn't necessarily the only phone to consider.
