ipad, archos 101 or advent vega?

Title says it all really. Would be used for watching video on planes, surfing the net whilst away from home and some e-mail use. I've got a blackberry but sometimes I need to look at word, pdf and excel attachments. I've got a Mifi for internet access.

What do people think?

Liam
P.S. I've already got a kindle but if the above worked well with a kindle app it would save me carrying it.

Hi telephoneman, I don't know the other two you mention, but I have an iPad and it's the most useful thing I've ever had. the iPhone is great, but this is better. I can create word type documents, adapt excel docs, read and store PDFs, anything would use my apple laptop for. it's kind of made my PowerBook redundant.

Internet is fabulous on it, and it just slips in my handbag. Battery life is excellent too.

BTW, I didn't bother with a contract for 3G - I have 3 pay as you go, it's the perfect amount - the amount on it when I bought lasted me the whole month. £5 I think, may have been £10. Just top it up like a phone card.

the ipad is a very unstable operating system, expect to loose your data so dont keep anything important on it.
How do you mean "the ipad is a very unstable operating system"?

IMO and personal experience of the iPad and iPhone - iOS is very stable - that combined with the automatic sync/backups in iTunes which also prevents a lot of issues.

Saying that - proper backups of documents is aways a necessity - regardless of platform.

From my personal experience the iPad's size, weight and battery life make it perfect for travelling. Where possible I always try and fly with just the iPad in my case.

There are a handful of times when you might want a full blown Mac/PC to hand, but there is normally a way to get most things done on your iPad.

The only downside is that despite it being just a "big iPhone", you still need to remove it from your bag when going through security.

those issues may now be fixed, but yet more are found, like the basic inability for ios to update the time when DST occurs. really basic stuff it fails on.

apple = sub standard, however with exceptional marketing and PR......

Maybe you should read today's news on engadget

http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/21/new-macbook-pros-freezing-under-heavy-load/

yet more apple sub standard equipment......

expensive doesnt equal quality, just look and bang and olufsen, mainly low end phillips products re badged.
That's a problem that can/will get fixed.

Do you have any idea how many bios, driver, software and OS updates there are every day for Windows, Linux and Android kit? It's no different.

Apple has such a good rep that as soon as a problem comes to light, it's big news.

Don't get me wrong - i'm not an Apple "fan boy" - in fact until fairly recently I'd never even held an Apple product - but I am open minded enough to see the advantages and disadvantages in all products.

A question i've already asked and I'll have one last try - have you ever used or owned an Apple product? If not, are you just basing your assumptions on what you read in the press?
