Hello all,

My name is Matt and I have just started my own internet businesses, still trying hard to get my name known in the world!

I know this is going to be hard but I'm doing this to provide a good life for my wife who just happens to be my business partner :? and four young kids! like many of you out there I am hoping for any advice you people can give me with regards to promoting my company and getting (free) advertising etc...
Just in case anyone out there is interested my line of work is selling PC's not just high tech but everything from software and upgrades to the latest systems! (www.thebigpcstore.co.uk)

So as I said I'll welcome any handy hints/tips and useful links

Thanks

Hi Matt and welcome to the forums.

I wish you allthe best in your venture especially having four young kids to support, it must be working all hours!!!

I did briefly skirt through your website and I must admit that the maxtor 80Gb hard drive is a dcent price. I did notice that you sell adsl/routers but not adapters particularly USB, is this something that is still under development????
The lack of special offers also jumped out!!

From those comments you can see where I and many others will be coming from...initially price and service. Price can be compared almsot immediately whereas service will be built up over time and will be the single biggest factor in repeat purchases.

I also notice that your website doesnt yet have a ranking on google and for selling on the internet SEO is something that you will have to put a lot of effort into.
I'm sure that many others on here will provide you with a critical appraisal of the technical aspects of your site.

thank you for your time, We are still adding new products, and will shortly add special offers, but all in due course... my wife is working very hard trying to get the sites (yes sites we have 3 altogether as well as her being a full time wife/mother/childminder!- she's a saint!) but seeing as we have between little and no advertising budget, and a distinct lack of internet business know-how I have to admit we are struggling slightly! if you have any other comments we'd really appreciate them, you may e-mail me directly if you'd like.

My husband and I support ourselves and 4 young kids with a website so it can be done.

Your site looks fairly slick and has a lot going for it.

A couple of things I would say are:

When you click on a tab it doesn't colour up and connect you to the page you are viewing which leaves you wondering which tab you are on.

Your contact page does not carry the statutory information for remote selling - you must have a phone number and proper address displayed.

What is a customer services page? It looks just like your contact page to me.

Where is your privacy policy?

Get rid of those hideous animated banners, they make you look less professional and they won't be doing you any favours.

To get traffic early on you might consider pay per click with adwords/espotting et al but I expect it is quite costly in your sector.

Natural search engine traffic is better as it is free but I leave search engine experts to tell you how to best do that.

Consider a links page and exchange some as this helps search engine ranking if the links are relevant. Avoid link farms.

Thanks for your time and advice....I didn't even know the banners were on the site! but will go and get this sorted, and will try to sort out the other things you mention too.
Your comments are always welcome and will continue to welcome ideas.
Many thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I wish you success in your venture and good luck with the SEO. As stated above one of the ways to get the engines reading and ranking your site is through links from other sites. This can be a slow process but it should help your placement in the long run.

Mike.

    Hi Matt,
    Hello and welcome.

The industry you are in is very competitive on the Internet, but with spending quality time with search engine promotion you will succeed.
The link above that Phil gave is one of my websites, so if you need an SEO help get in touch. To see I practice what I preach do a search on Google for "company formation" or "company formation agent" or similar and you will see I am number 1 almost across the board.

Dont worry about going to my forum as they are dead, I'm happy to answer any questions on here instead. My OzzyIT website is currently being redone and one of the first things to go is the forum ;)

I'm glad the content on the site is of use though.
