Interspire migration

Having previously looked to migrate our Interspire store to Magento we now realise that CS Cart or Open Cart would suit our needs better.

It's an absolute minefield trying to decide :(

One of the big problems we have is our wordpress blog hosted at mydomain .co.uk/blog

It's been established some 4+ years and rules us out of a simple move to a hosted solution such as BigCommerce.

Interspire is Big Commerce - But just the self hosted version
I mean there are a few slight differencies, but if you did want to go to Big Commerce, maybe you should stick with Interspire

What are your reasons for wanting to change?

Support for Interspire is being discontinued from this month as their efforts and upgrades will be concentrated on their hosted solution, BigCommerce.

As BigCommerce is hosted, my blog cannot be transferred hence the reason for change...

I haven't migrated Interspire before but have migrated other carts. I found that cart2cart (google it) was about the best way of transferring everything.

The harder part is creating re-directs (301 redirects) from your old URL's to your new ones - it's probably worth paying a freelancer to handle this part. This will ensure less of an impact on your Google rankings.

Have you considered looking to enhance your existing WordPress blog to become both the site and the blog where you add the additional pages you need for your online shop's products as well as using it for the blog? The latest WordPress CMS is so much more than a blogging tool and is a great site CMS. You could then use the blog to have direct sales buttons in your blog articles as well as the more conventional product pages.

ShopIntegrator has a WordPress ecommerce plugin you could consider for your site's online shop in both the blog and product pages.

If you have a good experience with Wordpress blog, why not to try to compare some platforms based on WordPress. For example, WooCommerce, WP eCommerce or Shopp. Both have a solid reputation. It is simple to manage and easy to start with. At the other side- Magento is mostly for big stores and experienced users who need a number of unique options. Thus, more opportunities for development.
