Internet connection query

Hi

If I plug my mobile phone to a laptop via a cable, can I access internet using my mobile data allowance instead of using the hotspot?

If so, how can I do it?

Unfortunately there won't be a wifi connection where I will be.

It may depend on what software is on your phone but it certainly can be achieved with some versions of Android.

Iphones can do this with Windows, but it really depends on the make and model of your mobile phone, the best thing to do is... Google It.

You may also be able to set up a wifi hotspot from your phone to do this.

- If it's Android, look in your settings in the Wireless & Networks section.
- Touch on "...More"
- Touch "Tethering & mobile hotspot"
- Turn on Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot.

If its the first time you're doing this you'll need to set up the wi-fi hotspot (name, security) with the "Set Up" option which is just below in my version of Android.

These instructions will vary on different versions of Android/some phones, but look for the works like "mofile hotspot" "personal hotspot" or tethering and you should get there.

N.B. Some mobile networks do not allow tethering. They will attempt to detect you doing it. You can usually check by googling "name of your network" "tethering" (unsurprisingly )

If this is the case for you, you might get away with it if its infrequent and for small amounts. If not, switch to a network which is cool with it.
