Interlink/DPD

I know they are owned by the same parent company but what is the difference between Interlink & DPD?

When we spoke to the sales rep she pushed Interlink but when I aksed the question regarding DPD, she avoided the question and kept taking Interlink :|

We have used both. The difference is that DPD is directly owned whereas Interlink operates as a franchise. They work out of different depots.

The other difference is that Interlink charges you per delivery address whereas DPD charges per parcel. So if you have multiple items going to one address, Interlink works out cheaper.

We had a bad experience with DPD which has not been replicated with Interlink. Our problems was failed collections coupled with lack of communication. The Interlink depot seems much more communicative. This will depend on who is running each individual depot though so will vary everywhere.

I can highly recommend Interlink.

DPD put some (or many) of it's B2C through it's "homecall" service whereby the final delivery is undertaken by the "Hermes" system.

Not good for perishable, urgent, unique or valuable items :(

Both owned by the same company but DPD seem to handle the big contracts for big firms.

The sales staff seem to work for the owners Geo Post.
Both Interlink & DPD have franchised areas & drivers along with their own run depots.

Both seem good to us but from time to time have little problems

It is the sender's choice whether to use Homecall or not on a parcel by parcel basis. I heard they have withdrawn the service anyway.

Overnight deliveries are a compromise between 100% reliability and cost.

Every overnight delivery service has occasional problems, some have more than others, that is why they all run "DISCREP" ( discrepancy reports ) - it is how they deal with those problems that sorts out the men from the boys. ;)

Just asked the DPD driver, he look like santa :D
DPD and interlink are owned by geo post (French) they have not merged them, and as DPD is the bigger side of the company, they are pushing for DPD to go European. They both do residential and business delivery's.

Nearly right ;)

(Taken from GeoPost website )

DPD & Interlink are both owned GeoPost UK ltd which itself is the UK arm of LaPoste (which is French)

The DPD depots used to be branded as Parceline but Interlink have used the same name for a considerable time and were both under the GeoPost banner back in 2001

The tractor units which haul both Interlink & DPD trailers are often branded GeoPost UK Ltd and it is not unusual to see Interlink branded trailers in DPD depots and vice-versa.

My husband works for DPD and says that Interlink tend to go for the smaller contracts and DPD go for the bigger ones so it depends on the customer.

Interlink is entirely franchises but DPD has some franchises (known as owner drivers) and some employees but that is how the companies were set up before they were brought under the same umbrella.

We originally made enquiries for a contract account with DPD but were passed to Interlink as they generally deal with smaller businesses with an element of domestic deliveries; DPD tend to be for bigger companies and European, but are both owned by Geo Post. Most of our deliveries to Europe leave via Interlink and are then passed to DPD for the road service.

In either case I highly rate them as a courier, with good prices and less problems than most. Having been through every courier, Interlink's service matches UPS at a much lesser price. They are francise depots but the great thing is that should a problem arise, you can contact the depot directly and they seem to care more about the service with their own targets to meet.
