Over the past few month's we have noticed more and more enquiries for integrated labels. We have always used them for Ebay, Amazon and our online store.

What I want to know is what do online traders use, if they do not use integrated labels and how do you do it?

As I label supplier I am curious?

One reason for not using integrated labels is that there is usually one sheet per sale, which can seem expensive.

Thoughts.......

We use integrated labels which we print directly from our Magento Admin. We would be printing the invoice anyway so the fact it uses one sheet per sale isn't a problem for us as otherwise we would be printing the invoice on a sheet and then printing a label separately so it actually saves on the paper printed.

When we started out we printed the labels seperately but found as we got busier this became too hard to manage.

Hope this helps.

Our fulfilment warehouse uses integrated labels but when we did it in house we just used regular laser labels for addresses also printing the PPI impression in the top right of each, 8 per sheet. We printed a separate paper invoice but I had considered not including this as customers get an electronic copy anyway.

Another method I considered was adding the PPI impression to a packing slip and using clear documents enclosed style wallets but it wasn't suitable for smaller parcels.

We use them straight from opentaps, and found it does make a difference. The only problem is today though we have had three jams where the label has come of in the printer, I think the heat is peeling it of causing a jam! Before today though has never happened!

This happens a lot with some integrated labels.

There are 2 ways to make an Integrated label.

The cheaper way is to basically take a piece of paper with a hole for the labels and the backing attached. The problem is that something is always going to sit proud of the sheet - this is a big cause of jams.

The only way we make integrated labels now is a full page solution. In other words we just cut the labels from a whole label page. They cost a tiny bit more and there is a lot of 'label area' that will not be used, but jams are eliminated.

We currently make 3 types. One that works with Ebay (Big address, small return address) where the invoice and packing slip is incorporated below.

The other is 2 large labels at the top of the page. This works for Amazon our our own ecommerce (epages). The 3rd is one large label at the top of the page.

If there are any other platforms out there that we don't cover, I will buy in the cutter so we can make them.

I know someone who was looking for Integragted labels which worked with Magento Go and couldn't find any. As Magento Go is hosted it isn't possible to edit the code to have the labels print in the correct place yourself.

I am very interested in using integrated labels for Magento.

Are you using a specific extension for the invoice formatting? I am using the standard community edition.

Hi,

If you buy integrated labels from http://www.integratedlabels.co.uk/ they supply a little tool and instructions for updating the required files.

Alternatively if you have some coding skills the file to edit is app/code/core/Mage/Sales/Model/Order/Pdf/Invoice.php (copy to local first)

An integrated Label can only be made one way! its "integrated" into the paper, the adhesive is applied with a backing sheet.

This is very cost effective as your only paying for the small adhesive used for the label and the small area of backing.

The machines that produce a integrated label run 2, A4 sheets wide.

The "2nd" process you mention is a laser label sheet; this is a complete A4 label with a die cut face, exactly the same a laser label address labels. What ever size label you use your having to pay for a label size which is A4 (the whole sheet).

The machines that produce laser label sheets run 1, A4 sheet wide, less efficient.

A comparable cost for 1000 sheets of integrated labels is £24 per 1000 from Cheap Integrated labels and £40- £49 for laser labels.

With any manufacturing process there is always a very slim chance of products not performing. Its advisable "Integrated labels" are picked up by the laser printer, non label end as the sheet is completely flat, this eliminates the slim possibilities of a jam, in the same way laser labels are cello wrap to protect from moisture which tends to make laser label sheets, curl.

Both products have a place in the market place but "laser label sheets" are NOT an integrated label product and should not be confused as.
