Insurance for stock in sheds

Hi,

I've been trying to find insurance for my stock but it's in wooden building and all the insurers I've spoken to so far only insure brick or stone buildings. Is there anywhere that will insure stock in sheds?

I've just spoken to direct line and they they don't insure wooden buildings :(
Keeping it elsewhere is not really an option for me at the moment. It's bulky and not attactive to thieves but I would still like it covered if it's possible.

Can you use it on your garden? Get it covered by your home contents jobby then...

In all seriousness it is bad news dude, good luck with the hunt.

I know I might have missed the boat on this as it was from 2009

However, if you want to insure the contents/stock in the shed(s) this should not be a problem as long as the shed(s) have good physical security

When it comes to insuring a wooden structure against damage this will be more difficult. There are a few reasons why; one generally an excess on a commercial insurance product is £250 as if it's a small shed the excess could be more than the shed is worth. Also wooden structures nearly always suffer from 'weather damage' and often bring claims. So an insurer would need to know how old the structure is, when it was constructed and who is was constructed by etc etc?

Hope this helps.

Did you find anyone who would cover you? I have a wooden garden office which is heavily secured with steel bars over all windows & lots of locks etc but I cannot find anyone who will even quote. I store £28k of goods there.

OP - can you really not store in a proper commercial unit? Rents are very low at the moment and very low business rates if used for storage only.

FYI You can insure anything no problem, but you need to get off the high street and go through a specialist broker. They will find a company happy to quote you.

Hello,

What is the item your are looking to insure? Whats its overall value? is it just the item of the wooden building as well?

Jamie

Hi,

I'd like to insure the stock for £12,000, it's bulky and heavy and so not attractive to thieves but I'd like it covered for fire/theft/flood risk for peace of mind. I'd like to cover the buildings as well if possible.
