Inserting google analytics code

Hi,

I was under the impression that inserting the google analytics code into the HTML of a website was simply a case of copying it and pasting - so literally a 2 second job, and yet a web design agency are saying they will charge my client (who has of course already paid them for the design of the site) "the usual hourly rate" to do this. As yet, I haven't asked them how long they think it will take them.

Before I start jumping up and down in anger, am I wrong?

Thanks

Karen.

It varies totally - a CMS like ours allows the user to add it - others need it put in the code, as mentioned - if a website contains a lot of static pages then each one needs to be opened, scroll to position, paste code, save, upload... could take a minute per page easily, so could be 10 / 20 / 30 / 60 mintues work etc...

why wouldn't they charge for it? It won't be a lot...

also - they may need to not insert it on certain pages that ought not to be tracked, and depending on the method of GA and the site, they may also need to test the code isnt making the site hang or pause

So even slapping the GA number in a joomla module can cause problems (we saw one issue where somone popping in a GA module meant customers couldn't check out because the GA JS code and cart JS code conflicted with each other)

In saying that, poping something little like a GA code on a clients site is one of those things we would do for free, but that's just us, its good customer service. However if the client was coming back with 2 things a week.. that's a different story
