Indexed Pages???

Hi

If you join google webmaster tools, simply verify your site (by adding a snippet of code to the site) this will provide you with a wealth of info, including which pages are indexed. On top of that it will also tell you if there are problems with any pages, redirects, errors etc. so if some pages aren't currently been indexed you'll know what you need to fix to ensure they are.

Which pages aren't there? If it's the ones off your 'what's on' page, I suspect it's because of the overcomplication of your URLs, like this one:
localtoleominster.co.uk/component/option,com_events/Itemid,23/agid,114/day,02/month,06/task,view_detail/year,2009/
Is there anything you can to do simplify these ...?

Hi, I'm just getting back to this after some time away.

I've registered my site on google webmaster tools but I can't get past first base as I'm struggling to 'verify' the site.

My web design co is the host but I have CMS functionality to edit from my end.

On the CMS page for the home page of my site I have the following sections to complete/edit:

  • Select Parent Page - this is set to 'Add to Root' by default
  • Page Title
  • Page Title Tag Next
  • Page Keywords
  • Page description tax next
  • HTML content (which is the part I normally edit)
I've tried inserting the google meta tag into most of the above without success (I keep getting a server timeout message).

Any thoughts on where I'm going wrong ??

Thanks !

You need to add it to head area of HTML - none of those fields sound like they do that. So you'll need to ask design/hosting company to do it for you - or else verify by file if you have FTP access (if you don't, again the design/host company can do it for you). Either way it's a 1-minute job - don't let them charge you!

Thanks. I'll contact the host. They have been helpful to date so hopefully it will be easily sorted.
