Evening to you all.

I'm trying to increase the upload limit for file upload, and I've searched on google about doing this. Most of the search results talk about changing to php.ini file - which I have no idea about!

Where can I find this file? Can anybody who knows more about this talk me through what to do, or would I be best contacting my host for help?

Thank you!

If you are on shared hosting the host will need to alter it at server level. But they may not allow large uploads in general.

Or if you have a specialised application on shared hosting a custom php.ini can be put into your webspace, the value in php.ini that requires changing is "upload_max_filesize = 2M" which is the default.

Doesn't work on all hosts even if they are linux not all allow it plus some lock down what you can change. Best way forward is to contact their hosting support department.

If its your own system look into using compressed files. PHP handles Zips and Gzip files quite easily.

Thanks for the advice and the link, will take a look. However, from the point of view of clients using my site to upload files to me, I think i'll still need to increase my upload limit.

Have contacted my host and will hopefully get some results!
