Increase in us traffic fall in uk traffic

Seem to be experiencing quite a few issues with website, had quite a fall in traffic, few enquiries except at night which makes no sense. Analytics showing an increase in us traffic and traffic overall but a fall in UK traffic. Need some advice on what might be wrong?

Do you have your site registered with Google Search Console? If so, have you set your target to be the UK?

Yes I have webmaster tools and it is set to uk in international targeting

But hreflang is not set so should this be en-gb rather than en-us and be specified

You mentioned that Analytics is showing you an increase in USA traffic. Can you confirm which channel this is coming from?

i.e is it referral, direct, social or organic search...or a combination of each?

Compared to a previous month, is the % increase consistent across each channel, or more prominent one one channel?

Mostly direct and organic and consistent across each channel..

Ok what you need to establish is where the drop/increase has happened. Because you are using search console, that should be fairly easy.

Go into Search Console. Look at Search Traffic > Search Analytics

Tick the IMPRESSIONS and POSITION metrics (at the top). Then from the COUNTRIES filter look at USA compared to UK.

From the graph you should be able to see any dips in USA/UK search appearance. i.e if your rankings have suddenly decreased in the UK and/or increased in the USA.

You can open up the graph to 90 DAYS, so you should be able to see if there is a trend, and when exactly it started happening.

Let me know what you find and we can take it from there.

Ok so the sites impressions for the UK over last 28 days have been 10,999 versus 9,001 for uk also there seems to be a number of keywords it is ranking for in the us that it is not doing in the uk?

How does that compare to previously.....has it suddenly changed?

It seems to have fluctuated but to have started to peak at end of February with much more impressions from us than uk, which isn't traffic that is going to convert as well as uk traffic?

Has your UK traffic dropped significantly, or is it just an increase in US traffic?

UK traffic has bombed since around Christmas time with no sign of it picking up...

I found it when I looked back to November but it only accounted for about 133 visits, can it be filtered?

The op mentioned that the traffic was coming from organic and directly......I believe with the trump hack, the traffic increase would only impact referral traffic.....so I don't think that will be the cause.

Yes, you'll need to apply a custom language filter...

Select Exclude > Filter Field: Language Settings > Filter Pattern: .{12,}|\s[^s]*\s|\.|,|\!|\/
