My brother is currently working in Gibraltar. Due to the downturn in the UK construction industry he was forced to find work elsewhere. He is renting a flat in Spain and has 20 miles to travel to work.

He earns 50k approx which is taxed in Gibraltar.

His wife and 2 children still life in the UK, in a mortgaged property and although she works part time under contract to a government agency they are still having difficult meeting the costs of running 2 properties, and the additional travel costs between the UK and Spain.

Are there any allowances that may be claimed against income tax?

Would it be better to contract his services to his employer in Gibraltar through an UK company he already owns?

Would it be better to contract his services to his employer in Gibraltar through a Company registered in Gib?

I appreciate that this will require specialist knowledge, but any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.
