Improving Search engine rankings

TotsCorner

Hi

Am new here but after some advice on improving search engine rankings for my site, we have SEO built into the admin area of our site which I can edit myself but I would like to improve our rankings. For some products we appear at the top or near the top of results but not for others. Any suggestions on how to improve this gratefully received.

Hi,

I have a website and have had to wear many hats including SEO. I bought a couple of books from Amazon which I found really good... I managed to get onto page 1 of google for the term "moneyback".. within quite a short time.

The books are:
Search Engine Optimization - An hour a day by Grappone & Couzin
Search Engine Optimization for Dummies by Peter Kent

It will depend on your level of experience, budget & complexity of your site as to whether reading a couple of books would work for you. I only had a small budget as I'd not long since launched.

Cheers,
Steve

Thank you very much for your suggestion Steve. I'll be going to Amazon.com or Chapters to check out these two titles. I wish that physical bookstores carried more inventory then I could scan the books before buying. That's the only bad thing about buying books online.

Hi Sherilyn,
You don't appear to have a links page, is that correct? Create a link page and swap links with relevant and related sites who rank well on the search engines for the keywords you are interested in.

Also look at adding an articles page to your website and then add relevant, helpful articles that your customers will find interesting and useful, this will add content to your site and will increase the volume of relevant keywords that the search engines will find when they scan your site.

Use your home page to talk about the actual products, display featured products for the month, consider moving your testimonials to a dedicated testimonials page and the details about yourselves to a dedicated 'about us' page that way you're adding relevant content to your site and freeing up the homepage to be able to add relevant copy which relates to your actual products.

I've written a simple and short article at www.trulyace.com/searchengineoptimisation.html that lots of people have found useful.

Following the principles in this will work, I have a great ranking for even highly competitive keywords such as 'logo design' for instance.

Alternatively you can hire an expert, but be sure to get a recommendation from someone you trust ideally, as there are quite a few cowboys in this industry as there in many industries.

Best Wishes

Hi All

Do you think the search engine ranks your website by looks or not.

I'm looking at having my site totally revamped as it's had 6000 hits but not much work from it 1stsolutionlocksmiths.co.uk.

I'm not to clever when it comes to websites so that is why i'm looking for prices on a total revamp.

Thanks

Darren
