Importing sample order from china

I am going to import a small sample order of 5 pcs from China. I'll list them on eBay to see if they sell. If they do, I'll buy more. If not, I won't.

The value of the goods will be about £55 and will be shipped door to door.

I know there will be VAT and import duty which will total about 30%. The supplier is quoting for delivery by DHL. Do they charge any handling charges?

So far I have the product cost, paypal charge and shipping cost quoted to me by the supplier. I am taking this value and adding 30% for the taxes. Are there any other costs I should be worried about when getting my parcel?

Well. This is where it gets interesting when importing products. Request that sender pays all taxes, duties and fees. This needs to be on all paper work.

In a nut shell. If it isn't and it gets stopped at customs, then you will be charged storage fees, admin fees and so on while they contact you about paying custom fees etc.

This biggest insult i've paid is £0.30 of VAT. However £35 admin and storage fees.

If sender pays all bills then it will go straight through without an issue. However you will need to settle up with the sender. That is if they allow it. If not, then you will have to factor this in as well (i'd factor in another £50 for storage fees, admin fees etc).

Does this still count for parcels coming in by air? £50 is more than the cost of the order!!
