Hi everyone. I am new here, please forgive me in advanceif I asked too many questions :)

I am looking to import some jewelry from China to the U.S. from alibaba and it seems like the community forums are just really bad and unorganized with self written articles that makes no sense when they are suppose to help buys/sellers. The more I read the more confused I get so if anyone can please help me just clarify a littttle bit, much help is appreciated! Thanks in advance

Anyway, I have some questions about paying with escrow. Is paypal considered escrow? From my research, isn't escrow where you hire an agent to hold your money and if the goods are satisfactory upon arrival, then the money will be released to the seller? If so, then I am confused as to why some consider paypal escrow since it doesn't hold the money until product arrival. Also, I have read where some suggest to use paypal + escrow.. how does this work?

2nd, I want to import jewelry, and not interested in ordering large quantities, but it looks like the average MOQ is 120 items per style etc. Now, for me to import this, is this amount usually big enough to still have it checked by customs? I have also read where often you need to hire an agent to check orders for you before sending it off, now would that apply to my case sicne my items are usually quite small. I can understand if it was electronics.

3rd, shipping. Chinese selllers prefer to ship express by DHL,UPS,FED EX but their quote is outrages sometimes it's in the $200~ range just to ship 200 rings! I can't imagine being that heavy! I was told definitely no custom fees w/ express mail, is this true? They did gave me China Post as another option, but sellers did tell me they will charge custom fee w/ China Post. Is this true or is it just their way to persuade you into using express mail options?

Thank you allll soo much in advance!!!

For escrow, you can use an independent low cost escrow company like Transpact.com.

It is FSA and HMRC registered, and offers all the protection you will need (as long as you get the conditions of sale right). It also protects the Chinese seller.

Depending on the currency you use, it costs only £2.99 / €3.49 / $24.99.

Be honest, 200 rings ordering is a very small quantity to a jewelry factory. The shipping progress won't be too complecated if shipped by DHL, UPS or FEDEX, and it usually won't charge the duties.

About the weight of the parcel, if your rings are made of silver, it might a bit heavy. But I dont think it would take that much as $200.

Well when u r ordering the mail charges are not due to quantity it is due to weight and distance, I would suggest consider all option available and hire a reliable carrier the costs would fall down if you order in large quantities.
