Hi There,

I am looking to Import from Vietnam to the UK. I have a few question, and any advice would be welcomed.
I am looking to get custom suits and shirts made with a factory in Vietnam. I know there are tailors in Hoi An however we are looking for a bigger scale. To start we are looking at 10-15 orders a week increasing to 50-100 a week.
Where is best to find these kind of manufacturers?
Is it cheaper to import to uk from Vietnam than China?
Do you think they would be able to cope with these orders?
Any advice at all on business in Vietnam would be great!

Many Thanks!

Buying custom made suits overseas on any scale larger than one at a time is fraught with difficulty.

Vietnam is a lower cost supply source than China for many products, but it is impossible to generalize. You would need to locate suppliers by the usual means and obtain quotes.

For some products it is well worthwhile, but not for bespoke suits and shirts.

I work with a few people from the UK who have suits or dresses made here, exactly the same setup as you describe Charlotte.

The tailors are amazing, there is one guy here who works alongside Holland and Sherry from the UK and makes the most beautiful suits for $800, a similar suit in the UK is $4000. If you know where to source the tailors and factories you will do well. The Vietnamese export costs are pretty cheap. Vietnam is high quality, low labor, drop me a PM if you want more details. What sort of unit cost do you expect?

On my last visit to Thailand I had two suits made to measure, plus some shirts. The quality was excellent, the cut was perfect, and the price was way, way below what Saigoned has referred to.

I would still be hesitant to try to operate a business in the manner the OP has described, whether buying from Vietnam, Thailand, China, Hong Kong or other places overseas.

I dont think so.you know,China is the largest exporter of clothing.

Do you think they would be able to cope with these orders?
Regardless of the size of the order , we treat our customers as the same.

Hi,

Firstly, Hoi An is a tourism place and the price for a suit that made in Hoi An is still relatively high when compared to other local tailors. I believe that you can get cheaper suits from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh, provided that you have enough local knowledge.

Secondly, Vietnamese tailors are very good at doing what they are told if you know what you want exactly. Therefore, as long as you can let them know what you want then you should get what you wanted.

Thirdly, I am a Vietnamese and have been in the UK for eight years. I travel to Vietnam quite frequent and know lots of suit specialists tailors in Ha Noi, Hai phong and HCM and I can get them supply the required amount.

Lastly, if you are still interested about get customised suits from Vietnam then drop me an email and we can discuss more about this. I can do the following:

+ Get sample suits from the tailors with your requirements. (You need to provide measurements, color, materials and pictures if possible).
+ If you preferred to go ahead then I can arrange for the suits to be made and shipped over the UK. (I take all the responsibilities to deal with the local tailors, importing, Duty...).
+ I will ship the goods to you from my place in the UK.
+ I can speak both English and Vietnamese. Therefore, I will able to instruct the tailors what you want or sort out any problems.

It costs the same to import Vietnam and China. Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance levies a 10% value added tax (VAT) on all goods and services sold within the country, so all merchants—including importers—typically add the VAT to the final sale price. If you do business with a Vietnamese apparel manufacturer or exporter, knowing a few rules can help you avoid the VAT and, therefore, reduce your final sales bill. Also make sure to declare a small value per item on the invoice to reduce import tax.
