Importing Electronics from China

Hello, all.

Can anyone please tell me if importing sciphones like i9+++ from China to UK is legal. I'm planning to buy 200 pieces of it by DHL shipping. How much would it cost me for this including shipping costs, the import duty, VAT, customs duties etc.

Please help. Thank you.

Thanks all. I appreciate your replies.

Does it reduce the risk if i lower the quantity of orders say 50 peices of cellphones per shipping? This is my first time really though I've been doing import of jewelries from the Philippines in low quantity. I didn't pay anything for this only for shipping because it's in a small quantity.

My contact person in China who works in a manufacturing company suggested to send 3 separate retail boxes of cellphones at different time. Do you think this will work?

Regarding ROSH, electronics is covered. You think this pose another problem? I didn't think this is serious because there are more electronics being imported from China. Most electronics being used in the entire UK even world wide are China made. Please correct me if i'm wrong. Thank you.

Hi, Conifer
If you want to do this in legal way, you need to go through customs, even via DHL, which means you cannot avoid duty, VAT. But I think your contact in China is more like to send you with small quantity at a time and declare as commercial samples, which means you don't need to pay any duty and VAT for goods. That is really up to you how would you want to do this. But my suggestion is ask the RoHS certificate, because you may be asked by Trading Standard, if you fail to present the certificate you can't sell them in EU.

Hi guys, I already got the first retail box 2 weeks ago. It arrived safe and was not questioned. I didn't pay any tax, and hoping it'll be the same in the incoming orders. Thanks for your sharings. God speeds!

Hi,

I used to import items from China for my Shop but found that on a number of times the items arrived damaged or not as described. Plus once we had paid the VAT 20% & Duties we may as well have brought them in the UK in the first place. Because of this we did a bit of searching around online to find the best deals. Now we tend to purchase most of our items from Xselectro.co.uk The prices on there are really good some even better than on Ebay and Amazon. Plus they reply within 24 hours if you request a quote. Thought this might help you as a fellow small business.
