At present I have a rather large web site with Workwear garments, most of which show images of colours available from makers images which give a brief product id and colour code

My question is that whilst being a pain if I changed every image description to say ref id-red-tunic.jpg rather than D363rd.jpg, would this really be worth my time or just keep me very busy. at present I do have attributes showing each colour and the colour in its name

You can see what I mean here http://www.internet-workwear.co.uk/...s---our--Best-Selling-Tunic-HP298.html#SID=19
but the images used for the small colour images are not shall we say ,jpg friendly

There are several things to think about when you want to implement image SEO. To start with you should focus on the keywords. You want to make Google aware of what the image is all about. Let's say that the image captures a sunset in Edinburgh. Instead of naming the file DSC3264.jpg, you should name it edinburgh-sunset.jpg.

There are more considerations to be made. You should think about the scale of the image. The concept is that a page is easier to be indexed if it's fast. To improve the loading time, you should scale the image. Also reducing the file size is important in this respect.
