we tried this but get a error and site and admin area stops working.
running magento 1.7.0.2

We are running it with 1.7.0.2 so it should be compatible. They have a support forum so you may some help there.

also when I turn Compilation off it works. same with a few other plugins

I just tried installing it again and this is the error I get in the backend,
front end is fine

I would always suggest just installing WordPress alongside your Magento for blog purposes. No Magento plugin can hope to come close to WordPress for blogging and SEO functionality

The only problems I see are,

1st I will need to install wordpress along side this, would that not make it slower.
2nd I will need to login to wordpress separate, every time i wabt to right a blog.

There is a free extension on Magento Connect that integrates Wordpress into Magento. Might be useful for you.

Just to clarify as well - point 1 - no it will have no impact on speed. In fact I would actually say that installing extensions into Magento is much more likely to have a negative impact on speed than installing WordPress alongside it.

The login thing I don't really see as a major issue personally but as Holo has said there is an extension that solves this for you.
