If you had £10,000 what would business would you start?

S

Super Simon

I was listening to a good feature on the radio this morning where they were asking people to call in and say what they'd do if they could open a business with £10k... I'll be honest, some people were deluded. Including the guy who rang up and said he'd buy 10,000 lottery tickets!

So it begs the question... if you were given £10k to start up a business, what would you do?

Its a lot more fun than starting a pub or restaurant..

Starting a business because you have cash is mostly a guarantee of falure..
Yeah I don't think they were looking at probing the ins and outs of business mechanics, more a reaction as to what people would do if they were faced with that option.

And I wouldn't say it was necessarily a guarantee of failure, I think it depends who the person spending the cash is!

Formula Vee costs around £10,000. As do Caterhams and MG's. Lotus' cost a little more at around £13,000.

Your never gonna be competitive at these budgets, but you'll see every race in a championship.

Funny thing is, Karts actually cost anywhere from £6,000 up to £50,000 depending on the championship, the point is, there is something for every budget.

Another point worth noting, Super One is a kart championship we compete in, it's broadcast every week night during prime time hours on MotorsTV, who have 8.5 million subscribers. Karts, are not toys.

Sorry, my post came across that I was having a dig at you. I didn't realise that when you refer to yourself as a race driver, you mean you race karts.

Please, tell me how going 80mph while 15mm off the ground in a vehicle with 4 wheels, and more power to weight than a Lamborghini does not qualify a Kart driver, as a race driver.

Please also tell me, how it is possible a kart still holds track record on Knockhill race circuit, even when compared with saloons, hatches and formula cars.

Also, I'd like to know how much you know about karting, racing, and motor sport in general.

It seems to me, looking over your posts that I have seen since joining the forum, most of your posts are based on opinion, rather than facts, it also comes across that you are jumping to assumptions, and having a dig at people for the fun of it.

Therefore I am going to jump to an assumption, I think your a troll. And a bloody good one at that.

I made a point of saying sorry when I found out you were into karting, as I wasn't having a dig at you, and didn't want you to think I was. Seems like I needn't have bothered.

And here I was thinking you were just being sarcastic with your comment, racing karts would not be considered as being a racing driver.

My apology on that, but do you think you could hold back and do a little research before blowing peoples comments out of the water here first?

Good, you mean the best!

He apologised no point getting all snobby because people have a different perception of your sport to you. It comes across all "do you know who I am?".

Anyway of course karts are toys. Do you drive to work in yours or use it purely for entertainment on the track? Thats right if it's the second then it is a toy, an expensive one but a toy none the less.

I wasn't being sarcastic. I dont know anything about karting.

My original post in this thread was a lighthearted joke, and it went downhill from there.

Personally, i like my toys to do at least twice the 80 mph you claim the karts do.;)

Maybe we can get back on topic sometime soon.

btw Alexander you did kinda go off with both barrels there. Stretchy has probably gone off to lick his wounds (he does that when someone hands his ass to him on a plate) but he'll be back as chipper as ever soon :) Play nice though Alexander, Stretchy is ok, there are however some rottweillers on here...

I think it would be good to set up a Sea plane passenger service. Going from city to city across Europe, using the river systems to land on.

You couldn't do it for 10k, but it sounds kind of fun to do.

That or board games. Myself and my family invent board games and I would love to publish some of them.

I didn't mean to come across as explosive, I am a nice guy (I think so anyway), I just get irritated easily by people who don't look something up before commenting on it looking they know all about it.

Apologies for the thread too, I think there may be enough to rebuild it though.

You should be more like me then mate. I'm so easy going that I'm permanently horizontal. Nothing fazes me. Never said a harsh word in me life! Everybody's friend, I am.

No licking wounds here. I'm not the kind of member who logs out at the first sign of a disagreement. I apologised as I unintentionally caused offence, there is nothing wrong with that.

Difficult question.

I'd go for something that you really like and that will keep your interest.

You could start up a burger van or something but after a couple of months you may want to get as far away as possible (that's only an example.......some people will like it whereas others won't).

Alternatively start something that makes money and will make enough to fund the company you really want to start.

Me, I'd use the £10K to design a prototype avionics widgery-doo and then demonstrate it to potential customers and also people who would fund the further development.

The seaplane idea I like, but yeah, you'd need to add a few digits. And you could also do coasts and lakes too.

It's just a shame aircraft are so expensive, or I'm sure there would be people doing this already.

i did propose a vertical take off and landing business jet that could land on the top of buildings etc. It would have a longer range than a helicopter but unfortunately my idea never got airborne (pun intended).

Pawnbroking has been mentioned earlier, but you need a shop for this. Average start up costs for a pawnbroker is around the £80K to £100K mark. Good profits to be had doing this though.

It has to be money lending - in the home credit sector - but £10K is about the minimum. Particularly as £1K goes to get a Consumer Credit Licence.

I want one!!! :D

What is it?

Personally, I'd buy a new van for the company that I work for, with the ability to use at night for my over-night Investigations. :D

If your interested in VTOL aircraft ideas, then have a look at what Moller International have been developing for 10 years now.

A vertical take of plane that can be driven on the road. Go go Jetsons!
