Can you help please? I am trying to establish what keywords apply when a tall person needs an office chair, but they don't want a draughtsman chair. The type of chair I mean would be used by someone who is (say) over 6ft tall and uses a keyboard/computer. You could think of it as a standard office chair with a higher seat.

If you are Tall (please pretend if not) would you use a phrase based around:-

    tall person chair
    or
    high seat chair
    or
    ??

It matters for PPC as we sell both chairs for tall people and draughtsman chairs, so I want to try to establish if which keywords point to which type of chair.

    Thank you

    Graeme

I am 6'2" and I expect office chairs to have at least a maximum seat height WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING ON THE THING of 60cm in the middle of the seat. Anything less and we don't even bother with the comparing prices or quality.

I vary between 6'1" and 6'3", depending on how much pain I'm in, and my last osteopath appointment.
I was looking for a larger office chair a while back.

I'd have to agree with the above.
    Large office chair,
    Office chair for tall person,
    Swivel chair for tall person,
Large swivel chair, and so on.

Quite honestly, as you may well have noticed, there doesn't seem to be a great deal to cater for those with better genetics.:p

Hope you do well with it. More you sell, the more chance of me finding them second hand in the local auction.......

Just to add, I'd certainly be searching for high back chair too, plus swivel chair with armrests.

Graeme, until I looked at your website just before Christmas I didn't realise you could actually get chairs for tall people (I'm 5'12''). So when looking for chairs online I wouldn't have used anything specific for a chair for myself. I would just have looked at general office chairs.

I wonder what else I have missed out on that is made for tall people?!?!?

I'm 6,4 and never noticed a issue to be honest,

About 8 out of 10 of the enquiries we get about chairs for a taller person mention a back problem in the same sentence - probably because they haven't noticed an issue until then! Desks that are too low and/or seats that are too low are recipes for back or shoulder pain at some time in life for tall people. Laptops add to the posture problems.

The keywords given above are very helpful thank you.

I have altered my picture on the left to (most of ) a draughtsman chair, which is much higher than any one would use at a standard desk.

If you wanted one of these, what would you search for?

    Thanks again,

    G

Are you sure there isn't an easier way to describe your height?:D

As far as searches are concerned, I thing 'office chair' and 'tall' would be my search words, but I also would expect the chair in question to be able to put up with me plonking myself down with a bump several times a day, so although I weigh 95kg, it would need to be able to carry far more than that (and say so in the description!) A friend of mine sat in one of our office chairs and his 150kg frame broke the damn thing, so I now void silly pump-up mechanisms and want just straight forward screw-height adjustments, using mechanics made of steel and not plastic.

It's not just tall people - the sad fact is that people are not just getting taller, but also fatter. Our social media person must weigh at least 170kg and when she comes around, there is just one chair in the building she can sit on/in/around!

It is one of those swivel leather armchair things you get with a three-piece sofa set and I have adapted it to sit on a 3/4-inch plywood circular base that is mounted on five heavy-duty case wheels. I worked out that she weighs about the same as a large wood-burning stove with integrated oven and back-boiler.

Imagine something like that being delivered to your door in a wooden case by four strong men, who then roll it down a ramp and then lift it and put it on one of your chairs!

    Ha ha ha, funny stuff.:D

I don't know is this the kind of info you are looking for, but I find with most chairs, the armrests are neither high enough, nor long enough, which makes things as uncomfortable as any other dimension.

If you are using a keyboard, the chair arms should mainly support your elbow zone, not your entire forearm.

And, have you got very short upper arms (no offence!) ? Your elbows should rest on the chair arms when your shoulders are relaxed and upper arms are vertical

Aye, you could be right there. I've not done much in the way of comparison, but I do get the feeling I have short upper arms, and longer fore arms. Cars, diggers, chairs, anything like that, my elbows are flailing all over the place, and no where near where the designer thinks they should be.

If I had my elbows on the armrests, the armrests would have to be level with the table. If they were any lower, my fore arms would be at too much of an angle to get to the key board. (Basically, I'm a bit of an orangutan:p)
Anyway, my back is so twisted up, and my muscles are so out of balance from physical work, that I'm not much to go by.
