If I send money to China via Paypal....

I am considering a new supplier in China whom I haven't met.

If I have a contract in place for the manufacture which is subject to UK law and I send my money via Paypal, am I likely to be protected if I don't get exactly the same as my samples?

Has anyone ever made a claim via Paypal where the goods received were faulty or not the same as contracted and did you recover your money?

I wouldn't even be considering this were it not for the fact that they accept Paypal.

    Hello Denise,

I have not been round long enough to know if you are already an importer from China? So sorry if I am telling you what you may already know. The thought of shipping without a QC check in China is just, well, not worth thinking about.

Even if Paypal refunded you, can you imagine what you would have to go through to prove your case? If I was Paypal I would just tell you that you had failed to take reasonable precautions.

Else everyone would be doing this if it worked!

    Hi,

As far as I am aware Paypal buyer protection does not cover international transactions and transactions made via paypal website payments pro and virtual terminal.

Also, please note if you are using your card to make the payment via Paypal, you do not get any "credit card protection" as in the UK, the purchaser loses the legal protection provided by the card issuer if the card payment is processed via PayPal.

On another note you have to consider that Paypal has a "Buyer protection policy" and a "Seller protection policy" and when resolving disputes they do have a vested interest in protecting the party that offers them maximum income in the long run.

On a more technical note, in most fraud cases original from here, the reason why most chinese suppliers send "junk goods" instead of not sending anything at all, is in order to prove that they did actually make a delivery. After that, the process of proving that the goods were not functional or as per specs can be quite cumbersome and time consuming even with a contract.

I buy successfully from China - smal quantities $500 ish at a time - I use alibaba's escrow service - I won't deal with a Chinese company who doesn't allow escrow.

Basically, it costs you to do it, but then again it costs you through PayPal too, (their exchange rates are horrendous!) however, the company you are dealing with send the invoice/money request to Alibaba escrow services - they request the money from you - you pay it into escrow who hold it until you have received, checked and approved the delivery and tell them to release it. They will NOT release it until you say so......

If the company you want to buy from doesn't have alibaba, goggle escrow services, and point your supplier to it....there are many of them - just choose one with the best rates!

Not had a problem so far....:)
