Ideas on choosing a product to sell?

Hello,

I currently run a business selling products online but I am looking to set up another side business and separate website, slightly different and more niche to what I'm doing now to pull in some more revenue/ alternative revenue. I've got the gist of selling online etc, but finding it very hard to find a product to sell. Would anybody be able to point me in the direction of how/ where to get ideas on new products to sell online?

I think niche is the way to go, especially if you have limited budget

It can be very hard to find original, unique product - but have you looked at maybe what is trending in other countries? There have been many business success stories re: entrepreneurs who have seen something working well abroad and brought it to the UK market (and vice versa!)

Another easy one this. Simply have a look at what's being sold on Amazon and Ebay, then sell something else. Job done.

I am now toying with the idea of setting up a separate website specifically for a single group of product we currently sell on our existing website. It is a good seller. Hoping we will be able to target a lot more and subsequently drive more traffic for that particular niche, thus sell more than we do on our current website as it is much more niche and targeted to that one product group. What do you think of this idea?

I also focused on finding a niche. However, it's important to selected niche was associated with some specific needs. There is nothing worse than investing in a niche that does not generate any income.

I know you're saying, however I'm hoping as the product is already a good seller on our 'department store' style website, I'm hoping that making a niche will bring more sales because the entire website is dedicated to that one single product group.

What do SEOs think about this?

I think, the idea of running several pages with more specialized assortment is a very good idea. When it comes to seo, google increasingly appreciates pages about a particular topic. Try to have on each of your pages blog which will cover topics related to your products. It is very important for generating traffic to your website.

Has anybody one here tried and tested this method? If so, has it worked?

From what I can understand Google prefer more specific niches and the site is definitely going to be focused on the particular product group in question. For example; every page of the website will contain keywords of the product group, whereas my existing website cannot include keywords of every product group we sell on the entire website.

Always use unique copy for products on your site - if you use standard copy it will be ignored by Google.

Agreed with some of the above. Niche products usually have less competition and if your page is solely about it with a good amount of content and properly optimised etc you shouldn't do badly. All you have to do is get some links on pages which rank for your search terms and you're away!
