Hi all!

I am going to be exhibiting some medical instruments in the near future and I was after some ideas to make the stand a little more exciting, I have a stand all setup and ready to roll, I just need some gimmicks really to make it more exciting, anyone here got ideas on what to do?

Hmm. Let me think. I know! Have a professional tarot card and/or palm reader working on your stand. It really brings in the crowds, and is particularly popular with females. I also find that a more scientific/medical crowd tend to be fascinated by the "esoteric arts" in a "is it true or is it fake" kind of way. Either way it's cracking entertainment and a great way to get footfall onto your stand.

I'll PM you this info as well just in case.

Well a bowl of sweets or lollipops is usually good also do you have any info or specs on the products you are showing that is usually helpful and causes a bit of interest. You could have an email list that they could join if they are interested in hearing about further medical instruments or other offers you may have on equipment.

Depends on the equipment really to be honest if its quite serious stuff then u cant really glam it up alot but if it is stuff like stethascopes and the like then yeah Id be impressed at some scantily clad hunks as doctors asking if he can pretend to take my blood pressure or listen to my heart HAHAHAHA:D I mean if you are a bit of a hunk u can do it yourself for less cost ;)

Make sure you have a backdrop that has an interesting picture / display that says a bit about what you do. Went to the Invicta Chamber of Commerce B2B this week and the companies that had no backdrop were almost invisible.

Other tactics I noted were:
Business card lucky draw (get people to put their card in)
Sweets, stickers, keyrings, notepads, mirrors, pens - take a look at companies that do branded merchandise for something unusual.

Best one was a stand that had a magician in to do tricks for people. I had no need for their services but I still remember their stand very well!

one exhibition we did - we ordered no stand - just the space and the electricity.
We brought in a carpenter and built a pirate ship - complete with rigging etc. We all then dressed up as Peter Pan characters (I was Peter Pan - complete with green tights) and served rum to punters - we were officialy the busiest stand at olympia that year.

For you - throw out all the conventional stuff - seats, lollipops, giveaways etc etc etc - yawn - all done so many times. Create a hospital ward - beds - patients in them, doctors and nurses (sensible uniforms!) with clipboards, machines which go 'beep' and give free blood pressure checks. Free liposuction would probably be a step too far - but what could you do in that context which hasn't been done before?
