So I'm 26 with a degree in marketing. I was in management for 2 years, and hated it. I like the idea of a job in property, as it appears to be a constant changing industry, very challenging. I'm taking a course in property marketing this week (basically learning how to bring business in as a new lettings start up), I find this to be very interesting. I like the diversity that property marketing has to offer. I don't want to go as far as selling houses at this point, mortgage broker jobs, etc, I don't think I have what it takes, at least at present, but would like to get involved in property management, lettings, networking, finding leads, even cold calling, I would have fun doing it. Maybe working freelance for a property investor, or an estate agency? I don't know where to find these jobs though, or where to advertise myself. I'd prefer working from home and look at more than one area, rather than focus on just the local market. anyone can give me any tips? very much appreciated!

Obviously I wouldn't mind doing that, but if a company did have a genuine job vacancy, wouldn't they advertise it, either through an agency, gumtree (and the like of), or the jobcentre? I'm checking these sites for property jobs regularly, and there are quite a few, but not exactly what I'm after. I'd prefer something freelance, just to build some skills and a background in the industry.

If you want to freelance they'll expect you to have relevant property marketing/sales experience.

If you want a sector job to help you gain experience, look on the websites of estate agents that operate in your area that you would like to work for. They also advertise in local media and through the job centre site. Definitely worth putting a tailored pitch together for local companies you would like to work for outlining what you can bring to the table.

For HQ jobs of property developers/estate agents ie Hammerson/ Right Move etc again look on their websites/read trade press/marketing media

If I wanted a list of all estate agencies operating in a particular postcode area/city and a detailed description of the different types of service they offer so I can get a picture of which has a better services, where would I have a better chance of finding this information? I imagine obtaining this info would not be possible without looking them up in a local business directory and then access their website, source the information myself. any ideas?thanks

Maybe we can help. We help individuals such as yourself set up their own letting agency. We will provide you with the full infrastructure and a unique on-going back office function so that you can focus on the lettings aspect of the business.

The key thing here is that it is your business and you reap the rewards of your hard work.

Our model is set up so that you can work from home in the beginning and only move into offices when it becomes necessary (eg. if staff are required).

We also provide the necessary training where required and technical advice so you are never alone. Our aim is to make sure you succeed.

If you find this interesting, please do get in touch.

Get loads of letting agents details, number of staff, director/proprietor name and number (usually) available on them too. then do your research one them online and give them a call, or drop them an email.

But be very clear on what you're offering to do for them as they'll otherwise lose interest very quickly if you're waffling and just offering to help with 'anything in general'

Also, might be worth doing some stuff for FREE (everybody loves free), just to get them to see what you're capable of doing and to build up some experience. You may also get a testimonial from it to help you win more work.
