Hi , I was approached today by someone who has two ice cream vans , he does very well and is looking to lease the second one he offered it to me for £400 / month , fully stocked the first month. I was wondering If anyone has experience in this business. The other option is to buy my own van , any help would be appreciated thanks

Andy,

Make sure you do your homework with this, why is he leasing it to you & not just carrying on with the current business (could he be making a loss with this van). Check the insurance cost & that they will still payout with the van not been yours - Insurable intrest is a must.

As others have stated find out about the pitch, if there are any other pitches available in good area's etc & also do the cost for you setting up on your own,

Good luck !

Much depends on what sites or rounds the van has, what it stocks and what the market is in the area where you plan to work.

It's been some years since I ran vans, but could make £100 profit a day, if you manage that every day then £400 a month would be reasonable.

But I have heard some horror stories of "Ice cream wars" and battles for rounds, a friend of mine was warned off (with threats of violence) unfortunately for the guy who did the warning, she had lots of friends, one day a motorbike pulled up with two guys with baseball bats, they proceeded to reorganise the lights and windows of the ice cream van.

Best advice is be aware of what you get yourself into.
