I want to do work unrelated to my business during the 'low season'

I run a party entertainment (disco, chocolate fountain, cinema projector etc) and mobile Food Trailer business registered under GT Parties as a sole trader. I'm Very new to the self employment world, my trailers opening night is 14/02/25, but everything for my business has been done properly and is ready to go.
However, I've noticed that there will be a lack of work for my food trailer, which is predicted to be my biggest earner, during the winter months.
Ive worked as a handyman in the past, doing general maintenance and basic electrics such as installing/fixing sockets/ovens/lights etc as a competant person. My question is, am I able to do this type of work to fill in the gaps of my currently business, yet still keep it under GT Parties? Could I just call it another name, and have my earnings from this work go through my usual business account? And how would this affect my self-assessments?
Thanks, Nikki

As a sole trader there is no distinction between you and the business. A handyman/general maintenance business sounds quite different to a food trailer/entertainment business, so you might need to provide separate figures for each on your self assessment. Using the same bank account for both should be ok, although customers might find it odd being asked to make payments to an account in the name of GT Parties for a handyman/maintenance business.

Welcome to the family.

As mentioned
registered under GT Parties as a sole trader.
The only thing registered is you as a sole trader. Even if you had a limited company, there would be no protection on that name - the only way to protect it is by registering it at the IPO, which, I wouldn't really worry about.

Is your other business ltd or also as sole trader?
