I need a new tablet

Have a Samsung Galaxy Tab that seems to have died although I do have a friend who is going to try to resurrect it
I use it mostly for email and internet using a mobile as a hotspot. We also take our dogs around a hospital to cheer up the patients. We video the dogs for instance in a hydrotherapy pool and then show the videos to patients who are interested as it seems to cheer them up. So I need reasonable video and a decent screen for playback.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I quite liked the Windows Surface Tablet, but I gather the cameras are rubbish :(
My mobile came from Pandawill in China, so I'm not averse to buying direct from there

Hello bbbbb,

Xperia has a decent camera and also has some degree of water-proof (you mentioned pool and dogs get overly happy about such circumstances), Kindle is great value for money and has a similar camera to the Galaxy, Surface is great for general use but no so much for video, the Nexus is a great affordable all-rounder and the iPad will depend on the model, the latest are great for video, the rest just slightly better than Kindle. Personally, I'd go for the Xperia if the budget allows it or a Kindle.

That said, hats off for your work.

Unfortunately it's quite common for Android devices to appear to have given up the ghost only to start again at a later date. What's the problem?

If it simply won't start try holding down the volume and the power buttons at the same time for around 10 seconds. If it starts you'll most likely be presented with the option to re-start the device.

Let me know how you get on.

Simon's right, it might very well be that. Reportedly, it's an issue experienced by many. As for the Chinese substitute, it does seem very similar from a specs point of view but what you're paying for when it comes to brand-name products are not the specs but the quality control.

I mean, have a look here, the products are close to identical, but would you grab a slice at Pizza Huh or a coffee at Bucksstar? If budget is an issue, have a look at the Kindle. Amazon, being Amazon, barely has a profit margin on them and it gets the job done.

Handy power supply tip (maybe)

I had a similar issue with a power supply for an Asus android tablet. It simply would not charge even though it would recognise something was being plugged in.

I had tried Asus support and every forum I could find and tried anything and everything.

Then I found one that suggested I put it in a sealable plastic food bag (the type you put sandwiches in) and put it in the freezer for half an hour. I was at my wits end by now so I thought why not, give it a try, what do I have to lose. To my shock it worked straight away.

The reason given on the forums is that the charge from a charger is higher voltage or ampage than through a standard USB connection and as result it has extra cut offs built in to the power supply. Sometimes these get stuck stopping it from working. The freezing is enough to release it. I'm not sure if the theory is right, I know very little about electronics, but it worked for me.

So if you get stuck it is worth trying

Google Nexus 7-2 is a good tablet, it's not very expensive and it's got everything you would get with a Samsung tablet after paying almost double the price.
After all, apps are the power of any tablet/smart phone and those you can download on any Google device be it economic or pricier.
Do Google have the same apps now as Samsung and Apple?

I currently have an iPhone and I'm looking to get a tablet that is 3g enabled for when I'm on the road, but I'm really torn between an iPad and Samsung, but haven't got a clue what one to go for!

It's mainly to check my emails and use the browser, but a decent app store would be brilliant as well.
