I have a HP laptop, just tried to upgrade Windows 8.1. Lucky for me the download stopped so I had another thought and went to HP support to see what they advise.

Seems the upgrade has broken a few laptops and some that worked are using twice as much power.

Microsoft have temporarily pulled the 8.1 RT version too due to update problems.

Not a good launch by Microsoft it would seem! :D

Hi hi !

I must be honest, after posting my message a box opened on my screen to say "your update has downloaded do your want to install it - yes or no" well the upgrade is 3gb in size :)

I click yes by mistake and have just sweeted away 30 mins waiting and hoping. But it's started and seem to be working here.

Thats good to know!

I only have an old Windows 7 laptop which won't run Windows 8 so luckily won't need to put myself through this. My daily machine is a Mac and Apple seem to handle updates a little better (personal opinion) :)

I've installed the update onto 2 Win 8 laptops and I actually like it (I hated Windows 8 with a passion - but really only because they forced me to have it their way or no way).

The RT version has problems, but that shouldn't affect anything else - there will be some issues with specific makes/models though, so maybe a good idea to google to see if anyone has had a problem before you install....just to be sure.
