How do you submit directors RTi submission?

I've activated service 'PAYE for employers' > Simplified Service > then it's asking for PAYE code number:* Free pay:*£
First pay date this PAYE code number applies:

Am I in the right section, what is PAYE code number and I imagine Free Pay is what we've paid? We're keeping under the £8k annual limit.

Am I doing this right?

Thanks, I'm using a mac and F1 brings up nothing when on the site.

I don't know what to use or what to do? They're is no guidance on hmrc site on how to actually submit the new RTI thing.

Thanks for replies.

Are you using software?

I'm guessing not, it sounds like you've just attempted to log onto the portal which is not set up to do RTI returns.

Firstly, you need to be registered to file online. Do you have user details allowing you to use the Government Gateway? You'll need your PAYE number and other info to register. The link is on HMRC home page under the "do it online" section. If you were already registered for PAYE though then you don't need to register again, the same credentials work.

Then you'll need software, if you're just doing a Director submission then the HMRC Basic PAYE Tools should do the trick but there are other packages out there for free or very low cost (check HMRC Recognition pages)

Once you've received your login details (through the post) then you can start to submit.

Thanks RTI man, I was trying to do it online. I assumed it would be similar to the cis on hmrc but it appears not.

I registered for PAYE online, received our details and ready to go. We don't need to worry about NIC, as we are below the limit and taking the rest as a dividend.

I cannot see 'HMRC Basic PAYE tools'. What are you referring to?
Thanks

Personally I found the basic PAYE tools (Mac version) really easy to use. I was pleasantly surprised. Must have done the whole thing (one director, single annual payment) in 10 minutes and that includes downloading it.

Really? I'm glad you did. I spent a whole day on it nearly. I did not know what paycode to use (P4L I think). Spent the whole day on the phone to HMRC who gave me contradictory advice dependent on which department I spoke to lol. Also did not know last years' amounts.

Was gutted as I wanted to do it too :(. Glad you managed to do it though Nick :).
