How to use QR Codes in your Advertising

The other day, I was looking through my local newspaper and noticed that several of the advertisers had QR codes in them. So, being the curious sort, I scanned them and went to the advertisers website.

In every single case, the QR code took me to the business' regular Internet website.

There are several things wrong with this:

1) Regular websites are hard to read on a mobile device.

2) Regular websites can be very slow to load on a mobile device, one of the websites I looked at took nearly 2 minutes to load on my Android phone!

3) The advertiser has no way of tracking where the visitor came from. They can only know that they were using a mobile device. So the advertiser doesn't know whether their advert is effective or not, as the visitor may just have done a web search on their mobile phone!

Here are a few things that you can do to improve the response rate to advertising with QR codes.

1) Create or get created a mobile website.

2) Set up a specific page and point the QR code to that page of your mobile website, for instance instead of www.yourdomian.co.uk use www.yourdomain.co.uk/newsad.This way you can track the response rate to your advert.

3) Make an offer on that page, a discount for mobile users or something similar.

4) Use a Tap to Call button on that page, so mobile users can easily contact you.

5) Use a Tap to Text button for the same reason.

6) Make it as easy as possible for the prospect to see your offering and either contact you or come to your business.

By the way, you don't need to pay someone else to create the QR code for you, there are many free QR code Generators available online, just do a Google search for "free QR code generator".

You can also see what your website looks like on a mobile device without having a mobile device, just go to www.iphone4simulator.com and type in your website address.

I hope this helps you make more effective use of QR Codes. PM me if you have any questions.

All the best

Tim
