How to start a Private Security/ Military?

Hello fellow entrepreneurs,

I’m asking today about, well what the title says. How would one go about starting there own Private Security/ Military in the UK? I’ve researched a bit and found that you need to be somewhat of a veteran in the Military, or have a lot of experience and get clearance from the government.

I’ve drafted a lot of ideas and, I think, it’s sounding pretty good. If you want to look at the document, I will at it to this thread. But the main questions are:
-How can I get the authorisation to operate on UK & Foreign grounds?
-How can I get the authorisation to use military grade equipment (Rifles etc.)?
-Would the government be willing to fund it?
-What are the limitations to the work the company can carry out. For example, I’m assuming assassinations can’t be carried out.
-What would come around if the police and the Private Security meet, do the Police have authority to just bypass the soldiers if a person has hired the soldiers?

If you can answer any of them questions, you have my thanks. My final question would be about funding; What kinds of people would be willing to invest in the company, hold shares etc.?

Many regards,

A hopeful teen interested in the military and public services.

I think you need to stop worrying about being an assassin and consider a career in the police and the military first. Then consider whether you can set up your own company. As a teen without any experience you have no chance in this field.

I'm not asking to be an assassin at all. That was just an example of something that wouldn't be allowed. What I'm wanting to do is find out information about starting up a Private Security that has access to some military equipment.

I have acquaintances who run security companies. They employ almost anybody (with a totally clean record an driving license of course!) for general security work, such as night-watchmen. They ONLY use ex-military for critical stuff and they only use ex-Paras or similar for very critical stuff.

For critical overseas deployment, they only use ex-special forces, such as SAS, SBS and Para-Reg patrol units.

So if you want to become a hairy-arsed hero, join the Parachute Regiment. Trust me, if you have what it takes, you'll enjoy it!

-How can I get the authorisation to operate on UK & Foreign grounds?

There are multiple options available to you depending on experience, but the simplest would be to sneak into 10 Downing Street around 4am and gain access to the prime minister's bedroom during his sleep, thus proving both your seriousness and ability to said minister. Once convinced, simply get him to sign something to the effect of; Johnny can perform military operations in England, signed, Dave. Obviously you should take the document with you as, while mr Cameron will be used to being woken for such matters, his secretaries may be less forgiving which can draw out the whole process.
The queen is an equally qualified target for this approach, although due to her age, waking her in the night runs the risk of scaring her to death.
Wrt foreign grounds, rinse and repeat as required.

-How can I get the authorisation to use military grade equipment (Rifles etc.)?

Well in most circumstances the above mentioned procedure should be followed up with an introduction by the PM to Sir Nick Carter, head of the U.K. Army, however these wheels can be slow to turn and you sound quite the impatient Sprite so I would suggest impregnating yourself into the world of cocaine smuggling. Within a few weeks, by showing some initiative and offing the right people, you should be able to make contact with an underground Bolivian arms dealer who can, in the short term, provide you with whatever you need.

-Would the government be willing to fund it?

OF COURSE!!! The government has over £60Billion currently slushing around to fund exactly this type of thing! They currently refer to it a 'military budget'. Now you may need to get a marketing guru on board, and work on your pitch, as you will be up against annual competitors like the RAF, but if you can make a case for taking the whole shooting match on (no pun intended) then there's a strong case to be made for you having a chance to get the whole lot!
In fact, if you can provide a suitable service for say, £40 billion (and that's loads of dosh, plenty I'd say, agree), then you'd be virtually guaranteed to win the contract.
The first eurofighters were built in '94 so there's bound to be some second hand bargains about by now I'd say!

-What are the limitations to the work the company can carry out. For example, I’m assuming assassinations can’t be carried out.

    Wrong.
Nothing wrong with a bit of assassination, it's murder they don't like.
Limitations will basically depend on performance. No-one minds the top salesman coming in ten minutes late do they? So long as they are hitting those numbers.

-What would come around if the police and the Private Security meet, do the Police have authority to just bypass the soldiers if a person has hired the soldiers?

Well, come on. Who has all the guns and jets? Somebody say sniper?

If you can answer any of them questions, you have my thanks. My final question would be about funding; What kinds of people would be willing to invest in the company, hold shares etc.?

I can think of a ton of people. Robert Mugabe, Bashar al-Assad, Marian Carey, Charlie Sheen, Russel Crowe, Vladimir Putin...
These are just off the top of my head.

Good luck with your new business.

Oh, and don't forget, you'll need an accountant.

I think Lizzie the Lizard takes issue with folks starting their own private armies on UK soil.
I do know one fella who runs his own military type security firm. He went to Eton, then Sandhurst. I get the distinct impression he is in a business that I will never be able to get into.

You might be better off looking towards countries with a more favourable attitude towards the idea.
