    Hi,

We used to ship to the US, but stopped when the new tariff rules came in. Since then, we haven’t been able to figure out whether we can send goods to the US or how to handle the charges correctly

Does anyone know the correct process for shipping goods from the UK to the US after the recent tariff update?

We understand that customs duties need to be paid, but how and at what stage should they be paid?

Also, how do we calculate the tariff so we can adjust our pricing accordingly?

I’ve been searching for information, but I can’t find any clear guidance. I’d really appreciate it if anyone could advise or point me in the right direction.

    Thank you in advance.

What method did you use for shipping?

For wholesale (bulk orders) I use DHL Express and it’s painless. The recipient is billed for duties and taxes (inc tarrifs).

For small orders, I just stick them in the post. Again painless.

Why do you want to change your prices?

I used to send orders with Royal Mail... most of my parcels are Large Letters.. and the cost was around $35–$40. I’m trying to understand how customs fees work now when sending to the US. I contacted click and drop but I am not getting any clear info what and how it should be paid.

How do you send by posts? Royal Mail store? How do you fill in custom paper and how do you pay for customs fees?
As far as I understand, there is now a customs charge regardless of the parcel value. Because of this, I stopped sending to the US in August.

Doesn't the customer have to pay those fees?

    Yes.

Sometimes, however, the customer will refuse to pay them, and reject the parcel. The parcel will then be returned, eventually.

I have adopted the policy of double checking with all Amercian customers to be sure than understand this. Mostly, they didn't.
Presumably because Trump neglected to tell them?

They work exactly the same way they always have but the thresholds and fees have changed.

You can just fill in a CN22 and aficx it or use the Royal Mail website, enter the details and print the label. Same as it always was.

Yes, the de minimis has been reduced.

A quick check on the Royal Mail website has this info on sending goods to the US both personally and for business

    www.royalmail.com/usapersonalupdates

You have two choices either your customer will be asked to pay before delivery or if you want to pay for them use the PDDP service mentioned in the link.

The process of sending goods and providing customs info hasn’t changed only that duty now has to be paid.

    This helped, thank you.
It gives clearly how much customs would cost and how to pay. I can go through from there.
    Thanks again!
