How to send bottles of wine by post?

Dear all,

I'm having some trouble sending wine in a bottle by bottle basis inside the UK, I need some advice.

On my site I sell wine of very reasonable quality/price ratio but the postage makes it too expensive to be successful.
Not all shipping companies accept liquids to be posted, only some accept alcohol, but on all of them the packaging required becomes expensive enough to have an impact on my sales.

I would like to be able to sell 1 bottle as a minimum shipment, being the bottle price (average) less than £10 I can not charge £10 for the shipment (£ 2.4 as box cost, £5 as shipment costs, and 20% on those costs) .

How should I work this out?

Many thanks
Marc

Find other companies selling single bottles by post and order one from each.
See how they do it, who they use.

Otherwise figure a different business model. Sometimes single items are very expensive to post as singles, far more cost effective as multiples.

May also be worth looking at your packaging. Is that method and price cost effective or would something else work?

Hi, hopefully this will help, or at least you could perhaps contact them and get more facts and figures.....

Tide Global is setting up in Essex and when I spoke to the owner recently we (Co-incidentally) discussed how to store and ship wine as he has been speaking to a wine merchant regarding order fulfilment and export.

He said they can do it! https://www.tideportal.com/about/

I know this is an old thread and you probably have a solution by now, but we received a bottle of rum yesterday which was packed perfectly in an inflatable plastic wrapping called Air-Paq. It was then in a cardboard box. It is still fully inflated and rigid. It’s an impressive wrapping.

Thats exactly how it should be and companies that wont pass this cost onto their customers dont stand a chance
