You can get to the first page of Google if you outrank your competition :D

Are you sure about that ?

When search on Google the is only one non-paid listing and that more then often is a sites yet to be ranked fully because it's page is new.

Also with billions of pages is it really feasible to assume any one page can rake higher then all others. This is the big problem with the way Google manipulate sites. If a term has just a million sites listed, Google would need a million ways to separate them in to unique ranking. So it's fair to say out of those million hundreds would be ranked equal highest rank and Google would need to use a standard unique value as final rank, that most likely being the age, size of site or date found.

Sorry I didn't follow that? I was just stating that if you outrank your competition you will have outranked them.

Hi Shakthi,

It really depends on your target phrase (it's difficult to give definite time scales even with this information) - but even amongst competitive search phrases, the levels of competition can vary hugely. So it depends on exactly what we are talking about and also on what activities you do to push it and how effective they are :)

For example, even with a good on site SEO work and occasional blog post and other activities it could take a couple months to reach the top for some very tough phrases. However, if you managed to drum up an incredibly popular social media campaign that went viral (via twitter / youtube or something similar) you could even find yourself appearing within a matter of weeks (or even days in some cases). But a campaign of this scale and success would be tricky and probably quite costly to run.

So it really all depends on the target and means you are using to get there. Apologies if this is a vague but hopefully gives an idea as to why you are getting the how long is a piece of string comments! If you can give a bit more detail about what you had in mind, this would help us advise better!

Good luck in your campaign!

Hard question, depends from:

- competition
- keyword
- on-page optimisation
- off-page optimisation
- domain age
- and around 130 other factors ;)

Normally it takes us around 2-9 weeks to put local client to TOP10 for 75% of his keywords.
