How to find who owns a company

F

FirstClassVirtualOffice

You can create an account and download a certain amount of free information directly from Companies House, including the names of the current appointed directors. Are they a Ltd Company and can you see their name on the register? or do you mean you can't find anything (because they're not registered as a Ltd Co perhaps)?

Hi,
I have been trying to find out who owns a company, but cannot find anything on the companies house website.
Where else can I look to find out

Thanks.

Go to Companies House website and download a copy of the company Annual Return that should show you what you need.

Hi
Thanks for the replies, I have tried Duedil and the link to the Companies House search, but they are just not appearing in either.

Any other ideas on how I find out who owns a company if they do not appear in the Companies House listing?

Thanks

If it's not a Ltd, LLP/similar or UK based then it won't be in companies house.

Message me some info if you want me to double check on my creditsafe (like duedil account) or do some digging for you (especially if an online entity).

So if the person I am trying to find is a sole trader and there is nothing on their invoice to indicate who they are, is there a way that I can trace who owns the company?

    Thanks

No because there is no company, there is a sole trader. Who is required by law to identify him/herself on all official documentation: website, invoice. flyres etc.

    They have a web site

Have you checked the whois records?

If it is a domain ending in .uk then according to Nominet rules the whois information must be visible and must be valid if they are conducting any commercial activity via it (this includes sites only banner adverts).

The registrant name is also always visible and must be valid, this should be Trading As if not a Ltd/LLP/formed company but can be an individual too.

If these are not visible, you can request Nominet make them visible.

Other domain extensions you are less likely to get this information.

Would this be against the law for a sole trader to operate like this?

If the business is conducted directly via the website, then they must abide by the distance selling regulations which would include their address.

If the business is issuing invoices, they must abide by the rules (not sure the official bill or regulation) as outlined https://www.gov.uk/invoicing-and-taking-payment-from-customers/invoices-what-they-must-include

Why not ask the business direct? If you want to do business with them its a perfectly reasonable question.

I did a look up on whois and it just gave me the same company address as on the invoice, but I still dont know who owns the company

Any ideas on where I can find this?

    Thanks very much everyone.

    140-142 Holbrook Lane
    Coventry
    CV6 4BN

These Ltd sharing that address (either specified exactly the same 140-142, or individual units 140/141/142):

    CUT PRICE SOFAS(HINCKLEY) LTD
    HOME COMFORTS ( HINCKLEY) LTD
    HOME FURNITURE HINCKLEY LTD
    KIDZZZ BEDS LTD

All are either " Dissolution (First Gazette)" or without director, with an insolvency note against one Nandlal Shiv-Shanker.

HOME COMFORTS HOLBROOKS LTD has a director of Jay Daniel Shanker with a warning about recent board change. It looks like they've been having some problems but could be entirely unrelated.

    149 Roland Avenue
    Coventry
    CV6 4HS

I found no Ltd for this address.

    noelt car sales

I found 1 director of 1st name Noel with postcode starting CV6 but not with a surname starting T ;)

Thanks everyone, I have a dispute with them and want to take them to a small claims court, I believe to do this I need to put the owner on the court papers and not the company name? Can anyone confirm if this is actually correct?

The company is a cars sales company, there is also a bed place operating from the same location, but they do appear to be totally seperate.

    Thanks again all

I don't know the specifics of the small claims court papers, but I still think you should do an electoral roll search on the residential address. That would give you more of a clue, although of course, it won't tell you for certain.

One thing I note is that the bottom of the website says "Powered by Auto Trader", so presumably, Auto Trader would have their details.

To be clear within the context of the thread, them is Noelt Car Sales, which may or may not be related to any of the other details I and others have posted here.

It would of been nice if you'd of explained the situation fully in your original post tbh, but no biggie.

    call them

Indeed, local phone box / area code, mate give them a call, ask something dumb about car like if it has heated seats or state of tyres, say you'll call back after speaking with the partner and ask for a name for if you call back to arrange a viewing.

You'll generally find even with very evasive people, they're much more amicable to disclosure when presented with a +£ scenario rather than -£/complaint scenario.
