How to find someone to manage adwords?

Got a small charity with an adwords grant. We've had a go ourselves and to be honest it's a bit of a mess (account is currently suspended due to not meeting adgrant criteria).

We want to find someone to get this up and running, and to maybe manage it for us if we can't do that ourselves. I used People Per Hour a few years ago is this still a good place to go for this sort of work? Or if fiverr better (or something else)? Thanks.

Hi yes, would throw my hat into the ring as we have a lot of adwords experience. It's not just getting the ads right it's also about achieving high ad relevancy and the landing page too. I'm new here but so I can't drop our link but you can find us with 'cambs digital' search. Or PM me.

We are also happy to do this in a way where we teach you to take over the campaign once it is all setup and running and you have it under control if that is what you need. Sustainable advertising is good beyond a campaign run.

One word of caution here is that, whilst you will get what you pay for, you don't need to pay over the odds and you certainly shouldn't engage the cheapest only on the basis that they are cheap as you will just see your Adwords budget go and not get any return.

Any decent agency or self employed PPC marketeer (with clients) will be able to talk you through what they do for their clients, research your needs and demonstrate what they can offer so sound a few people out and get some quotes and do your due diligence.

Final word of caution: dont enter into any crazy contract. There are quite a few forum threads on here about a former Big Yellow Book publisher who now manage adwords and what others have said is food for thought!

Google has it's own engineers who are way over the top in terms of pricing. If you have 20 hours a week free then by all means put in the time and learn it for yourself. It is a skill that takes a lot of effort and it gets technical. A good PPC consultant (like me) should allow you to eventually migrate the ads in house. Once you get the initial work out of the way then there is less work however to be good you need to change the ads and keep refining them. Having SEO skills and working more on the landing page can be even more important if you want to effectively reduce you ad spend. Getting the click is just the start, you need to track the next action the user takes on the webpage, did they navigate through a shopping cart? Where did they go? Did they sign up for a mailing list. All that is quite complex, inserting the tracking code correctly for a non technical person who knows some basic html. The further you track the user down the line the better.
What will happen for anyone doing PPC for themselves, you create an ad, it gets approved you add a budget and then you find by lunch you get an email saying your money has all gone. You got no enquiries and it was a disaster. So while I would not do it from anyone who is too cheap I would try to budget for someone with experience whp is willing to let you take control after they learn.

Advertising online correctly is actually awesome! Without it we did not know what half or more our advertising budget was wasted on. I think many mistakenly do not have a budget for advertising which is a bad thing.

Isn’t spending more than the minimum amount and having Dedicated google manager a better idea? Cutting out the middle man? Excuse my ignorance if not the case

You need to be spending a LOT to get a dedicated manager.

And, Google's account reps are not all great. Head over to https://www.reddit.com/r/PPC/ and do a quick search for account rep or customer support.

Hi Redd,
With practically every active Adwords account Google will put you with an 'account strategist' so there is some free support and you can argue that some support is better than none for the DIY PPC campaigns.

But whilst they can be a great source of info for first timers they are not marketing professionals and cant be expected to know about each business, the right keywords and target market for each of the dozens of calls they handle every day.

Setting up adwords wrongly can blow your budget on wasted clicks so whilst some adwords support is there from Google the chances of success improve greatly with the combined marketing skills, experience and adwords knowledge of your campaign manager.

Would be interested to know what you decided to do?

Google are quite explicit about how to set up your Google Adwords grant account. Follow the guidance very carefully. If you do then you should be fine.

Optimisation of campaigns is a different thing. We recently optimised a small non for profit's adwords campaign.

After the initial reorganisation we:

  • increased from 2.87% to 7.67%
  • increased revenue from adwords from £960 to £2368

we used the same daily budget. We just took their existing set-up and made it more efficient.

In essence it is easy to set up an adwords campaign, Google make it very easy for obvious reasons. However, its marketing. You need to understand what your goals are for your campaign and structure things accordingly.

It can be a massive money pit so be careful.

We are happy to chat if still interested.

I think Upwork is a great freelance network.
