How to: donations?

Hi there!

I am planning to launch a website where I will be sharing articles etc with others. I would like to add "donation" button, in case someone feels I contributed to his/hers life and would like to support me in doing that.

My question is - how does this look from a legal angle? Do I need to be registered as... self employed or have some charity status? Or maybe I can take donations without registering anything? (which I doubt)

And if I have to register something, what would this be? What are the fees or charges of running such "thing"?

I assume there is an income tax I would need to pay as well...? Donation will be paid through PayPal.

You would need to declare the earnings to the hmrc, depending on how you register e.g sole trader or a company.

Which one would you recommend? I am planning to publish an ebook shortly as well and sell in through my website. Would sole trader be good enough?

go for sole trader, then "upgrade" to a limited company if or when it's needed
