How to buy a domain name

Does you know anyone who can get domain names for you? Age old problem, thought of an idea and the name but of course the domain is taken. Good news it is just parked.

I have successfully purchased domains in the past. Write to them (don't reveal you are a company), inquire if it's for sale (don't demand they sell it to you). Negotiate the price (don't sound too keen, etc).

I guess this is the only way? Just wondering if anyone has a better idea. I've only ever purchased domains in the £100s, the one I want will probably be £1000s.

When you say parked is it done through something like Sedo or does it have it's own direct landing page? Prior to GDPR you would likely have been able to get some contact details for the Registrant via the WHOIS but this is no longer an option unless they have requested the info be displayed. If you have some contact info then it is worth enquiring but as you say don't come across as too keen and instead try and downplay its value - if they are looking to sell they might be interested in a quick deal.

If it is parked then could you not search for a suitable alternative as clearly whoever owns it is not actively using it so couldn't really challenge anything similar. It might be worth looking at some of the alternative domain extensions (rather than .co.uk or .com) as a means of getting the name you want. If marketed correctly than using an alternative shouldn't be a problem.

Sometimes, when a domain is parked it means it is up for sale. Any notice around the site prompting to buy? Some domain marketplaces will simply park the domain while it is listed in the marketplace.

Feel free to send me a PM with the domain, happy to see if I can find anything out for you.
