Having an Eire address on the site helps. As does an ie tld.

And make sure you haven't set your location in Google WMT as this can block you in all the search engines outside your location.

Well that's you first problem. Google doesn't like these new TLDs. Change this to a .com and you will have a much better chance of ranking internationally.

You thanked me but you didn't answer the questions.

The answer to the questions is key to the replies you are given.

Are you just targeting Republic of Ireland or trying to target all countries?
Have you added the site to Google Search Console?
Do they allow country specific targeting in International Targeting for .travel domains?

I thanked you for taking the time to reply and giving a constructive reply.
    I can't answer yet as I don't know the answer (I wasn't in charge of this ).
Our main market audience lives in the UK but it seems that there is less competition in our industry in ROI. We are not interested to target any other country.

If it's only really UK and Republic of Ireland you are targeting you could set up a directory on the site for Republic of Ireland visitors .travel/ie/ and give the content a slant for people from Republic of Ireland, get Irish sites linking to that content, have Republic of Ireland phone number, address, etc.

Let us know if you can set International Targeting for .travel domains when you find out.
If you can, add the .travel/ie/ version of site and set it to target Republic of Ireland

    However....

.travel will always struggle no matter how you set the targeting. Google just doesn't like these new extensions. If you want to stand a chance of ranking in Google.ie you need a site or sub-site optimised for that country.

Hey there, I would also suggest creating a .com domain and leave your target as blank in the Webmaster Console.

Another solution is to create subdomains for countries you're targeting and set them up as separate sites on Google Webmaster Console and choose the target countries for sub domains.
