How much should we pay for someone to design and help write a newsletter?

We do a quarterly newsletter, and I think we are paying a lot for it at the moment. We use an outside agency to help us with it. We collect all the articles and photos for the newsletter, and the agency designs the newsletter, to make the articles fit, and also tweak the articles to make them more professional. It usually runs to 8-12 pages and there is a quiz on the last page which the agency prepare. A link to the previous newsletter is below:

What would you expect to pay for this?

We have a very similar newsletter that we send out every quarter.

First one cost about 800 quid as included setup costs and having the designer familiarising himself with what we do, and all others now cost about £3-400.

For this type of newsletter I would charge around £300 for the first one, then £200 for each subsequent issue.

Our cost to produce an 11 page newsletter like this would be £240.

Whoops, I put it on the site just as a landing page and didn't add it to the main menu. Here you go.

Mind you, my service is probably different as I actually write all the content from scratch. They generally run into 1-3 A4 pages total.

About £300/350 sounds about right. Maybe an extra £150 on the first one to familiarise like the above poster said.

There is a lot of artworking in that which a more elegant design could remove and make you look more professional - so you could pay less and look better...

however you also say that they tweak the articles for you, you don't say how many revisions take place, you don't say how you provide the information to them...

so it really could vary - a newsletter like that could be either end of the scale mentioned depending on those factors.

Depends on how you measure value.

Do they deliver on time, do they produce good work, are they nice to deal with, can you always speak to them on the phone, are they accurate with their work.. etc...
