How Much Should I be paying?

I'm about to launch an A5 magazine (36 pages in total) and need 20,000 copies delivered locally (Surrey).

In the past, I've used a company and paid £65-£85 per 1,000 but I'm looking at using local people who need the money... perhaps 20 people each committing to deliver 1,000 copies.

How much would pay them?

Any magazine owners on UKbusinessforums? How much do you pay for distribution?

Thanks

It would cost more in terms of time... however this business is a community business, so it's creating work locally.

In terms of how long it would take to deliver, I have no idea! I would track by calling/door knocking. That's not an issue for me.

I'm just wondering what I should be offering per 1,000 if I do go down this route.

I want to pay a fair price, but keep costs down.

If you are trying to help those who are unemployed, you might actually be creating a problem for them. Obviously this would be a one off job for them, but they should still declare it to the Jobcentre and it may affect their benefits. Not just reducing their benefits for the week in which they do the work, but they may have to sign off and back on again.

If you pay a commercial company £65 per 1,000, then perhaps £50 for a person doing the same number.
